I place my hand on his shoulder. “Luke, do you want to stay in my guest room? I don’t want you driving in this,” I question.

I would feel absolutely terrible if something bad happened to him after he left my place. Of course, I would feel bad if something bad happened to him all the way around.

Jeepers. I need to get my thoughts together before I look like a crazy person.

He looks conflicted as he weighs his options. “Are you sure? I don’t want you thinking this was my intention all along.”

I smile. “Yes. I will show you your room.”

Leading him through the hallway, I point out the bathroom where I grab a spare toothbrush and comb to place on the counter, and then his room off to the right. My room is across from his but I’m definitely sleeping with the door shut tonight.

I don’t think Luke would hurt me, but I don’t trust myself around him. I feel this strange connection to him as I’m trying to herd him into his room so I can breathe.

“Thank you, Raina. You didn’t have to do this,” Luke’s velvety voice rings through the air.

“I know, but you also didn’t have to give me a ride. I will see you in the morning,” I turn out of his room. I’m in my room in a matter of seconds with the door shut.

“Wow! How am I going to be able to share a cabin with him for an extended weekend?” I ask myself.

This is going to be very hard.

After what feels like the longest night ever, I’m awoken by the smell of fresh bacon and something sweet in the air. There is a slight knock on my door throwing me into a panic until I remember a man I haven’t seen in forever stayed the night.

If this were Criminal Minds or one of those true crime podcasts, I would be a skin suit or something.

“Raina?” Luke’s deep voice filters into my room. “I made you breakfast and it’s on the counter. I have to leave. See you soon.”

I throw my covers back to swing my legs over the side of the bed to go to the door and thank him. I’m not sure if he’s still here or not, but I’m hoping he is.

Luke isn’t like the typical celebrity who only does nice things to get what he wants- publicity. Luke is thoughtful and caring.

Someone I could fall for dangerously quick.

Swinging open the door, I see Luke grabbing his jacket and him turning to look at me. He hits me with that sultry smile and a promising wink.

“I will see you soon,” he promises.

“Thank you for everything,” I call out to him. “Wait! I don’t have your number.”

He chuckles before turning to walk out the door. “Yes, you do. I’ll call you tonight to discuss plans for the cabin.”

I’m about to question him when I see a note peeking out of the cinnamon roll on the table with bacon on the plate. Did he make these or did he buy them? Judging by the lack of food in my fridge, I’m pretty positive he bought them.

I stuff the food in my mouth while taking a peek at my cell phone to see what time it is. I have to go to work today since I had to switch a couple of shifts with people to get the time off for the holiday. A lot of the nurses don’t mind switching when it isn’t the holiday but sometimes I have to sweeten the deal somehow.

I’m at the hospital quickly after throwing my hair in a pony and slipping on some scrubs. I’m eager to see how some of my moms are doing with their babies.

A couple of days ago, there was a baby who was born three months early and has been in the NICU ever since. I’m eager to see how baby Joshua is doing after the past couple of days.

Plus, I’m wanting to push getting dumped so close to Valentine’s Day out of my mind.

“Raina!” Sarah, one of my best friends at the hospital, calls out to me as she stuffs her belongings into her locker. “How did it go?”

Oh boy. Me and my big mouth had to confide in her with my hopes of what was going to happen yesterday.

I consider lying to her but eventually, she would find out. Wouldn’t she?
