Chapter Fourteen

Dale

Reliving the exact moment I knew I messed up is not something I want to do.

“We all knew my father was crazy. We all knew that eventually, he was going to mess everything up and screw our lives up even more. One day, he came to me and told me about his plan to take down your club. He said he was going to do it because he could. Apparently, our marriage didn’t help him the way he wanted it to help him.”

My heart hurts at the thought of everything that has happened in our lives over the past few years. I know Dale’s going to be upset when he hears everything my dad did.

“He wanted to patch over your club and make it one big club. Chase was never going to let this happen and my dad started to panic. He started to realize he wasn’t going to get what he needed and then he started planting stuff in the club. The moment I found out he planted the evidence against Mick, I knew I had to leave.”

“What?”

“Mick being arrested was because my dad was trying to take down each of you one by one. He was trying to find out how to do it and he thought without Mick here, it was going to down smoother.”

“Your dad? He’s so fuckin’ crazy!” Dale’s starting to get upset and I can tell he’s feeling the pain of what is being said to him and he’s also feeling the pain from being shot.

“He planted the drugs on Mick’s bike and got him arrested. Mick was leaving a bar and my dad followed him. He wanted it to be your bike but at the last minute, you guys switched who was supposed to do the drop.”

“You mean to tell me your dad was the one who started this whole shit?”

“The club’s not going to stop. My dad’s club is going to keep coming at you until you’re taken down.”

“I fuckin’ knew it,” Chase retorts from behind Natalia’s back.

“Prez, hold on a minute. Let her finish.”

“Brother, this is fuckin’ too much. This is too close to us.”

“Chase, let me finish.”

“You have five minutes to finish before I go blow up their clubhouse right now. They already are due for some blowback after what they did to my girl and her sister.”

“What happened to the girls?”

Chase walks into the room with his lip curled. “Someone threw Molotov cocktails into Cass’s place. Cass is at the safe house because she refuses to step into our clubhouse.”

“Holy fuck,” I mutter.

Everything is so messed up.

“My dad’s club is the one that tried to get Mick to come over to their side while he was in prison and he refused to do it. He couldn’t leave you guys. Mick didn’t do anything wrong. It was all my dad’s club,” Natalia says.

“Now what?” Natalia asks once the dust settles a little in the room.

“Now we go huntin’,” I answer.

Chapter Fifteen

Cassie

It has been a couple of days since we’ve been in the safe house and it is getting awkward as hell. I know that I have to be here for obvious reasons, but I’m ready to get out. I’m ready to rebuild my life.

I have applied to several jobs on my phone and have been making job interviews now that I have to start over. I have a couple of secretarial job interviews lined up in the next town over, and I’m excited because I think I’m going to get it. I think I’m going to get the job.

“Can you take me to the store?” I ask Colm.

Colm’s been in and out of the house for the past couple of days and mostly just spending the nights here. I know he’s probably wanting to get back to his life.
