He looks over at the door before turning his brown eyes back to mine. “Thank you, Mistress. I will see you in two weeks.”

I kiss him on the cheek as I lead him out of the room. Joey is watching from the room, and his eyes widened in shock at what he saw. I can tell he’s turned on from the two visits I had. His lips are opened into an O shape as his chest rises and falls rapidly.

“Serena, that was so fucking hot,” he mutters from behind me. “I’ve been a Dom in a relationship before and never imagined how hot it would be to submit to a woman.”

“Uh, thanks,” I retort. “Wait here. I’m going to get my stuff from the locker room.”

“Where do you think you’re going, Mistress?”

I stop in my path to see who is speaking to me. “Excuse me?”

Suddenly, I’m being pushed against the wall by a strangely familiar man. “You made me love you. You made me need you, and then you dropped me!”

He shakes my shoulders against the glass several times as I struggle to regain my bearings. “Please let me go!”

“You selfish bitch. I gave you everything I had, and you still couldn’t love me.”

“Joey!” I scream.

The man slaps me across the face, and then he’s suddenly gone. I hear the crunch of his face against the wall. Max is seething as he breaks the man’s nose.

“The woman said to let her go. You need to start listening, bastard.”

Max has the man’s arm twisted behind his back in seconds, and it was at this moment that I realized why he was hired as my bodyguard. Max is good at thinking on his feet. He’s protective of me, and he’s willing to step into the fight. These are all things I need in a bodyguard. My previous guards were good, but their reaction time was slower than necessary.

The Dungeon Master, Meg, appears in the hallway and immediately steps into the situation. Meg is a badass womanwho has been a switch with me a few times. “Thank you for stepping in, Max. I will take it from here.”

Max is in front of me with his hands fighting the temptation to touch me. “Sweetness, I’m so sorry I was gone.”

“It is okay. He came out of nowhere.” I look around the hallway to see if I can find Joey. Max raises an eyebrow like he’s trying to figure out who I’m looking for. “I wanted to see where your replacement was.”

“He’s currently nursing a black eye.”

“Where were you?” I ask.

“Out. Let’s get you home.”

Chapter Sixteen

MAX

Lorcan McGuire’s men search me before allowing me entrance to the social club they are taking residence in. If I had a sense of humor, the club would be completely stereotypical for a mafia don to be in, with its smoky room; scotch permeates like incense.

The goons take my gun from my belt and grab my knife from my pant leg. I would laugh at them for thinking that would stop me from killing everyone in this room with my bare hands. However, I can read the room.

“Mr. Fitzpatrick,” Lorcan greets me. The Irishman looks a lot older than I would have expected, but I’m guessing a life in crime isn’t the fountain of youth.

“Yeah,” I reply. One of his men points toward a chair, but I shake my head. “I’m not staying that long to sit.”

Serena’s father smirks. “If you were any other man, I would have put a bullet in your head for not following directions.”

Shrugging, I look around the paintings inside. “I’m not one of your men.”

Unless you count the fact that I’m your contracted hired gun.

“What can I do for you? I’m very busy,” he retorts like he’s bored.

“I’m assuming you know that your daughter is being stalked.” Even though Lorcan is going to pretend he doesn’t care about his daughter, I know he’s been keeping tabs on her. I managed to hack into Serena’s computer system and discovered several tracking devices inside.
