Putting the spoon back, I grab a fork and start to stir the eggs, which quickly splash out of the bowl. “Damn! It’s too small. Why didn’t you tell me?”
“Because I can tell you every little thing or you can learn it on your own. So now what should you do?” His grin only serves to piss me off.
“Get another damn bowl!” I gripe as I get another, slightly larger one out, and pour the eggs into it, then begin to beat the hell out of them.
“Bacon,” he says as he leans against the bar.
I stop what I’m doing, go to the pan, and turn over the bacon, which is nicely browned on one side. “Oh, that’s a nice color. I like that.”
“It is nice. Back to the eggs. And you should think about what you’re going to use to cook them in,” he adds.
“Um, a pan, a pot, a dish?” I look to him for an answer, and he just shakes his head.
“I’ll let you decide.”
Once I had the best eggs, and they tasted like bacon. So I decide I’m going to cook them in the same pan I’m cooking the bacon in. We’ll see if he tries to stop me.
“Will there be toast?” he asks me.
“I think there should be. Any idea where the bread might be?” I ask.
“I’ll give you a hint. It’s in the kitchen.” He laughs at his clever joke, and I scowl at him.
With the eggs looking all yellow, I leave the bowl and go on the hunt for the elusive loaf of bread. I go through every cabinet, then open a door and find a pantry full of food. “Well, of course.” I grab the bread, then look around and see a toaster next to the stove. Placing pieces in all four slots on the toaster, I almost push the button down, then stop. “I’ll wait for the rest of the food to get ready before I make them.”
“Great idea.” Pierce crosses his legs and his arms as he leans back and watches me.
I turn the bacon, finding it cooked, and have no idea what I should do with it. Then I decide I’ll just make our plates. Grabbing two plates from the cabinet I found them in when I made my search for the bread, I pick up the bacon, laying two strips on each plate. But I find grease pooling around them and never recall getting a plate with grease around the bacon before.
I search the kitchen and find paper towels that I use to clean the grease up with, and now things look right again. I pour the eggs into the greasy pan and stir them so they begin to look like the finished product. Thinking they seem almost done, I hit the button to start making the toast, and in no time at all, I have the three things I need for our breakfast.
Spooning a few more eggs onto his plate, I grab the toast that’s popped up and put it on our plates, then get the butter and some grape jelly from the fridge and fix up the toast. Before I add the jelly to his, I ask, “Jelly for you, Pierce?”
“No, thank you. I like butter only.” He smiles at me, and it makes my heart skip a beat.
He’s happy with what I’ve done and, as silly as it is, it makes me happy too.
I take the plates to the small dining table and turn back to him. “Would you like milk to drink with this or something else?”
“Milk is fine.” He stays where he is, still leaning against the bar as I pour the two glasses of cold milk.
Placing them next to our plates, I go to get silverware and napkins and place them next to the plates. “Care to join me, Pierce?”
“Thank you, I’d love to,” he says, then comes to the table, pulling out a chair and gesturing for me to take the seat.
I do and find him leaving a kiss on top of my head. “This looks great, baby.”
With a sigh, I say, “Thank you.”
Before he takes his seat, he goes to the cabinet next to the stove and pulls out salt and pepper shakers. “You only forgot this. But all in all, not a bad job.”
I’m reminded of the book I read where the sub forgot salt, earning her a spanking. I giggle a little as he sits down. “I suppose that’s earned me a punishment.”
“Not today. If you forget tomorrow, it might.” He puts his finger on the tip of my nose. Today is a learning day. No punishments. But try to listen and grasp what I like, so things will go easier.”
With a nod, I pick up the bacon and take a bite. “Yum. I did good.”
He takes a bite of the eggs and nods. “You did. I’ll make a respectable cook out of you yet, Jade.”
