Sherry smiled as she waved at her cousin. “You go out there, Ella. You’ve got one heck of a good guy here. Don’t blow it.”

I held Ella close to my side as we headed for the dance floor. “Sorry, Brandon. Not sure why I overreacted. I just saw you dancing with a woman and went bonkers with jealousy.”

“Kind of how I got harebrained when that moron tried to kiss you,” I reminded her. “Yeah, I get it.” Pulling her into my arms, wrapping them around her the way I wanted to, I whispered in her ear as we swayed to the music. “I love you, Ella. Do you have anything you’d like to tell me?”

Pulling her head back to look at me, her eyes sparkled. “I love you, too, Brandon Gentry. I wouldn’t have done all this if I didn’t.”

“You looked nice before.” I stepped back to look her over, then twirled her around before pulling her back to me. “You look hot as hell now. Both of your looks are pretty smoking. Now, tell me what it is that you really love doing, Ella?”

“What are you talking about?” She really had no clue!

“You’re an artist. Certainly, it’s wrong for me to be snooping, but it is my home after all. I found your hideaway and your art.”

She buried her face in my shoulder. “I’m not that good.”

“You’re amazing!” I sent her out for another spin, then pulled her back into my arms. “And you should become the best artist you can be.”

“I had fantasies about having my own art show.” She smiled, taking my breath away. “Do you sincerely think I’m good? Not a soul has seen my drawings.”

“My brothers have. You areincredible. And I’ll be proud standing by your side at your very first art show.” I twirled us both around the dance floor as she held on tightly. “You also are a natural dancer, baby. Who knew?”

“Umm, I’ve danced a lot. Alone, but a lot.” She giggled as I swept her across the dance floor. “It’s better to dance with you though.”

“I should hope so.” The music took us away, and we danced until we couldn’t take another breath. I stood there on the edge of the dance floor holding her. Everyone else kept on dancing. No one seemed to be aware of us falling in love.

Ella bit her lower lip, stained red with shiny lip gloss. “You wanted to know why I came to Dallas, Brandon? I’m ready to be a mature woman with you. The kind of woman you ought to have. And I want to be the woman I deserve to be.”

“I like the sound of that.” And she was ready to explain why she went to Dallas. But mostly, when is she was coming back? “Whatever the motive was, can it be over now? I want you home, Ella. The ranch isn’t the same without you. I miss you more than you can ever understand.”

Nodding, she gulped, then said, “I’ll return when you guys all leave. See, I’ve been following some advice, but it isn’t helping me much. I came here to get on birth control pills. And they won’t be effective for another couple of weeks.”

“And you wanted to stay away from me because you thought I’d pressure you into having sex with me?” That wasn’t going to happen.

“I thought so, yes. Not that you’d force me, though,” she added. “I think once you kiss me…”

With a chuckle, I let her know how things would be after we kissed, “You will want me that way, Ella. But guess what?”

“What?” she was curios.

“I won’t take your virginity until you have my last name. I’m doing it the old-fashioned way. I am not hurrying a darn thing with you, girl.” Pulling her close, I let her know one more thing. “I haven’t had a drop of alcohol today, have you?”

She shook her head as a smile curved her plump lips. Lips as red as rose petals and looking as soft as them, too. “Not a drop of alcohol today.”

“Would you mind if we share our very first kiss now?” My eyes glued to her lips, my mouth watered to taste her.

“I wouldn’t mind at all.” She eased in closer to me. “I can’t think of a better time.”

The music was slow and romantic, and the atmosphere gave a hint of what was yet to come as our lips touched. Stars filled my head as her lips parted and our tongues played together. The stars gave way to fireworks as our kiss went on and on—and then on some more.

When we parted, I gazed into her cobalt eyes. “Damn it, girl. I am head over heels in love with you.”

“Let’s keep it that way.” She pulled me to her again. “’Cause I’m head over heels in love with you, too, Brandon Gentry. Kiss me again because I’ve never felt something like this in my life.”

And neither have I.
