Chapter Twenty-Six
Alexa
Sharing a bed with my husband was about to become very real. My six-week checkup with the doctor had resulted in a clean bill of health, and she’d okayed me having a sex with my husband. And boy, was I ready for that to begin.
I’d already planned ahead for the night. I felt I’d been waiting for this night for so long, so I wanted to make it special now that it was finally here. I had a bottle ofDomaine Leflaive Montrachet Grand Cru chilling in the wine cooler behind the bar, plus smoked meats, cheeses, and ripe, bite-sized pieces of fruit filling a cheeseboard in the fridge.
Best of all, Patton’s brother Baldwyn and his wife, Sloan had agreed to keep Patty overnight so his one-year old cousin, Audrey Rose, could get to know him better. Things were coming together rather nicely for our first night of being a real married couple.
My cell rang as I drove home. I hurried to answer the call, as Patty was fast asleep in his car seat in the back of the new car Patton had bought for me. He’d done his research and found a Genesis G90 in a warm burgundy color with supple, soft, cream-colored leather seats. I’d never ridden in, much less driven, anything so luxurious. And Patton said it was one of the safest cars on the road, too. All I knew was that I loved it. “Hey, babe.”
“How’d the doctor visit go?” he asked, and I swore I could hear the smile he must’ve worn in his voice.
I thought I’d mess with him a bit. “Not too good.”
“What?”
“Well, it looks like we’ll have to wait a few more weeks before we can—well, you know.” I tried not to snicker.
“A few more weeks?” came his disappointed words. For a moment, he almost sounded like a petulant teenager. I held in a laugh. “That’s okay. I mean, I am disappointed and all, but your health is what really matters. Should I let Baldwyn know we don’t need them to babysit tonight then?”
I didn’t want him to let the babysitters go. “Okay, you got me. I was just kidding around with you. I’m good to go, the doc said. I’m heading home now to pack our son a bag for his first overnight stay with his uncle, aunt, and cousin. But I’ve got to tell you that I’m a little nervous about leaving him for the whole night.”
“I’ll keep you entertained.” He chuckled. “Sloan’s a great mom, so you don’t have to worry. Patty will be very well taken care of. And Audrey Rose is so excited about getting to have him over, too. They’re going to be great friends.”
“I know they will.” I had many cousins who I adored, and I wanted Patty to have that too. “I’ve handled the wine and appetizers. Are you going to handle dinner?”
“Dinner and dessert,” he said with a slyness to his voice. “Dinner is oysters Rockefeller, artichokes, and dark chocolate-dipped figs. But the real dessert is the can of whipped cream I’m going to use on you.”
My cheeks went scarlet as my entire body went up in flames. I giggled like a little girl. “Oh my gosh!”
“My gosh, indeed. You’re about to find out that you have married a skilled lover, lucky girl.” Another deep chuckle told me he was kidding—but I had my bets that he was incredibly good in bed.
“Sorry, I can’t bring much to the bedroom.” I had no idea what I could do for him. “But I’ll try my best for you.”
“All you have to bring is your hot little body to our bed and let me love you like a man should love his wife.”
Something crazy happened as he said those words to me. I’d never been aroused just by some simple words before, but there I was—panties damp and womanhood pulsing with what I could only assume was desire. Desire for my legal husband. No sins. Nothing bad about being with him in a sexual manner at all.
It was almost too good to be true, after all the bad things I’d been through. “You’re making me hot, Patton.”
“Good,” his voice low, sexy, and even more arousing. “I’ll see you at home in a bit then. I can’t wait to get our night started. I suppose you could call it our true wedding night, Mrs. Nash.”
“Yeah, I guess we could call it that.” I bit my lower lip as what lay ahead of us filled my mind. “See you soon, lover.” Laughter erupted as I thought about what I’d said. “That sounds silly. See you soon, mi amor.”
“I can’t get you alone soon enough.”
“Wow,” that was all I could say. I had never been so in love and so ready to experience what making love felt like. I’d had that horrible sex with the jerk, but I knew that wouldn’t even come close in comparison to what Patton and I would do.
Butterflies filled my stomach as my mind ran away with me to the night ahead. As I turned the corner, I saw a red car sitting in front of the gated entrance to our home. It was parked in such a way that I couldn’t go around it to get into our property.
So, I parked behind the car then got out to see who it was. “Can I help you?” I called out.
The driver’s door opened and out came Alejandro Soliz. “Alejandra, I’ve come to talk to you about our son.”
Fury flooded me and I ran at him, beating his chest with my fists. “You get the hell out of here, you son-of-a-bitch!” I’d never cussed a day in my life, but those words burst from my mouth.
He took me by the wrists to stop me from hitting him. “Alejandra, please. I came home for a visit and my father told me how he saw you and your husband in the hospital. He said the baby had come early and you’d had many problems—even almost died. I had to come see you and my son.”
