“Can’t back down now,” I whispered once the ring camera blinked, meaning it had caught my movement, and Rashad would know either way I had been by. Pushing the wet hair that stuck to the side of my face away, I rang the doorbell and stepped back.

The sky lit up, and the thunder rolled while the huge rain drops soaked my head and clothes. When the porch light illuminated over my head, I realized how careless I was comingto a man’s house I’d quit things with and not knowing who may be on the opposite side. Though the light came on, I thought about still making a run for it, but the distance from my car and the door wasn’t short enough.

Rashad’s door slowly opened, and all of Rashad’s sexiness was displayed. He stood shirtless with his checkered pajama bottoms sitting low on his waist, showcasing the band of his boxers along with the dips of his Adonis belt. His bare feet, which I couldn’t deny were damn near perfect for a man, seemed to sink into his plush carpet.

“What’s up? Everything okay?” he questioned in concern, looking past me as if someone was behind me.

I was here, and I didn’t know why. I just knew I felt the need to be in his presence. Rashad’s question was loaded because I wasn’t okay, but I was. My bottom lip quivered, I shrugged my shoulders and before I knew it, I was crying. I couldn’t even get my words out because of how bad I was crying.

With quick actions, Rashad pulled me into his place, surveying my body swiftly.

“You good? Somebody hurt you? Hell is up?” Rashad’s questions were those of a boyfriend or husband that was concerned.

My emotions were high, my heart rate increased, my body shook from the cold air and wet clothes, and tears stung my eyes. So many things seemed to be wrong, but as I peered up into Rashad’s eyes, I felt calm, secure, love, and even vulnerability. I was safe. Swallowing hard, I stepped toward Rashad, lifting on my toes and pressing my lips against his when I was close. The kiss was unhurried, and I could taste whatever liquor he’d consumed earlier lingering on his tongue.

Rashad pulled back staring into my eyes.

“You good?”

I appreciated Rashad for caring and being concerned, especially after the way I’d ended things, but talking wasn’t something I wanted to do. I was feeling a certain way and all I wanted to do was feel good.

“I don’t want to talk about it right now.”

I had barely completed my sentence before I crashed my lips against his. It didn’t take long before Rashad followed my lead and dominated the kiss.I needed him and only him as he seemed to be my choice of drug, and I was ready to get high.

Chapter

Twenty-Nine

Rashad:

Shiloh and I lay sprawled out naked on my living room floor as our labored breathing gradually returned to normal. I wasn’t sure what was up with Shiloh, but she obviously needed me in the moment, so I fulfilled her desires. Sitting up, I looked over at her. Shiloh’s expression was emotionless.

“I’m gonna grab a water. You want one?”

“Uh… No, thank you. I should get going.” She never looked my way as she slowly grabbed her clothes and started getting dressed.

Instinctively, I chuckled. It didn’t bother me that she wanted to leave as she was grown, I was bothered because I was feeling her, yet she seemed to want to play games.

“Cool. This a one-time thing or you dropping by at random times when you need to be fucked?” She’d ended things but obviously couldn’t get over what I delivered in sex.

Standing, Shiloh wiggled her thick frame into her jeans, turning my way once they were on.

“I had a moment. This doesn’t change things between us, and I won’t be back. I do appreciate you for making me forget things, even if for a short time.”

Shiloh was out in the streets acting like a childish male that didn’t want to commit, and I was her latest victim.

“Yeah, I’d appreciate that.” My response may not have been the best, but I wasn’t in the business of being toyed with at my age.

“Thank you,” she muttered just as she passed me, heading for the front door.

Turning, I slipped on my pajama pants and prepared to still be a gentleman and walk her to the door. Shiloh doubled back, walking slowly to a box that sat off to the side.

“Something wrong?”

“How do you know her?”

“Who?”
