LeeAnn exhaled deeply. “I know it’s not something you want to do, but it’s something you need to do. Even if you don’t tell him the reason, you should just tell him it’s done. That way, he can move on with Ms. Hotbox Pussy.”
I couldn’t contain my laughter. One thing LeeAnn was going to do was give somebody a crazy ass nickname. She was quick like that.
Look at One Kid’s Scoop of Ice Cream Hair over there, was some shit LeeAnn would be quick to call someone.
“You’re a damn mess.”
“Yeah, maybe so.” She giggled, and it slowly stopped. “Seriously, Shiloh… tell him y’all done. Give him a reason if you feel the need or don’t, but for your sanity, tell him you done.”
LeeAnn made sense, but I didn’t want to listen to her advice. I wanted to be a woman scorned, even though that wasn’t how I usually moved.
“I’ll eventually let him—” My words came to a halt hearing the beep in my ear. Pulling the phone from my ear, I looked at it. It was Rashad. It was almost comical how he called just after discussing him. It was like he had heard the entire conversation. “Speak of the devil, and he shall appear every time.” I sighed, placing the phone back to my ear.
LeeAnn laughed. “Do ya thing, girl. He ain’t gonna give up until he talks to you.” The call disconnected, causing the phone to ring in my ear.
Exhaling deeply, I press the button to connect the call. “Hello?”
“Ahhh, so she does breathe.” Rashad laughed, but I didn’t. “What’s up with you? Everything cool?”
“Couldn’t be better.”
“You mad at me or something?”
This guy,I thought. I was about to speak, but Rashad spoke again before I could.
“You not fucking with me anymore I see.”
Now was the time to say my peace. “Actually, you’re right.”
“Dead ass?” His relaxed tone was gone.
“Yes, Rashad. I am. It was a mistake with us getting together, and I honestly cannot put my job on the line for you. So whatever type of relationship we explored, it’s done, and now we’re just prosecutor and defendant… nothing less and surely nothing more.” I didn’t feel like mentioning the female I saw him with. I knew I wouldn’t get the truth.
Rashad chuckled. “Just like that, huh? You weren’t even going to give me an explanation or let me know we were done had I not been calling and texting frequently?”
Even if the mature thing to do was to let Rashad know I was done, he was right. I wouldn’t have said it to him.
“I just want this to be done and for you not to contact me again.”
There was a long pregnant pause that almost caused me to disconnect the call. The low release of Rashad’s breath caused me not to.
“Whatever you want to do, Ms. Monroe.” He spoke somberly, disconnecting the call instantly.
I slowly placed my phone on my desk before resting my elbows on the edge of the desk, dropping my head into my hands. Trying to shake the thoughts of Rashad, I massaged my temples in a circular motion. It was taking a few to get Rashadout of my system, but I was determined to do so. My only goal now was to build the case against him, convince the jury to find him guilty, and go about my life like I’d never met him.
Chapter
Twenty-Eight
Shiloh:
It had been two weeks since I officially broke things off with Rashad, and I couldn’t deny the fact that he rested heavily on my mind daily. Rashad had reached out a few times. I managed to ignore them all before I finally blocked him. Blocking Rashad seemed to be the only way I’d get him fully out of my system.
Hearing the loud knock on my office door startled me, causing me to jump and waste the hot coffee I’d just spilled on my shirt.
“Come in.” The annoyance couldn’t be ignored in my voice.
The command had barely left my lips before the door was pushed open and Arthur stood in my office. Most times, Arthur visited and bothered me often since I’d been in the office. Oddly enough, in the past few weeks, I’d seen less and less of him and William.
