I held her steady, bending my legs until my thighs met her pert ass. I thrust into her warmth, and she let out another squeak, this time louder.
“Shh,” I warned as I thrust deep inside her.
She clapped her hand over her mouth, her eyes squeezing shut. But that didn’t keep her completely silent—I made sure of that. Her little grunts and groans stoked my desire. I bit my lip as my eyes fell shut. Despite the fact that I was trying to pay her back for teasing me, I was so close.
“Fuck,” I groaned, my fingers tightening on her waist.
“D-don’t…”
I opened an eye to look at her and found her looking back at me.
My first thought was that she meant, “Don’t come without me,” but her pussy clenched so hard around me, I knew she meant, “Don’t hold back.” When her heat contracted around me again, I couldn’t have held back even if I wanted to.
I gritted my teeth and thrust as deep into her as I could go. She gasped into her hand as I came, and in seconds, her body shuddered with the force of her orgasm.
After, she fell into my arms again. We were breathing hard, holding each other, still tingling from the pleasure of it all. I rubbed my mate’s back, and her eyes closed again.
I turned to kiss her forehead, and I realized that she’d already fallen asleep. I smiled to myself, kissed her again, and let myself relax next to her. In just a little while, I was asleep as well.
When we woke, we regrouped with the others on the first floor of the cabin. The snow had stopped falling, and it wasn’t quite first light, which worked for us because we needed to formulate a plan.
“Obviously, they’re onto us,” Kai said. “Otherwise, they wouldn’t have been able to corner us like that.”
“The path from Bryn’s vision must be too direct a route to them,” Lance said. “But if we can’t follow it, what else can we do?”
“Whatever we do, we need to catch them by surprise,” Dom added. “If they do that to us again, it might be even more devastating.”
There was a moment of silence for those we lost yesterday.
“Why don’t we go back to the Garou Pack?” Bryn asked. “We need to reconnect with the others, anyway, and I’m sure the Garou know the area much better than we do.”
It meant backtracking instead of pushing forward, but it was the only feasible option. “All right. If you could describe what things looked like to them, maybe they’ll recognize something.”
“That’s what I’m hoping.” She looked at the others. “It’s the best I can come up with.”
With that settled, we all went back. The feet of snow that covered the ground slowed us down, but we were able to reach the Garou in just a couple of hours. Tavi, Oakley, and the others were eager to meet us. But they were horrified to learn what’d happened when we tried to get to Troy.
“I hope I don’t come off as massively insensitive,” Leo said, “but why are you here and not out there trying to find him?”
Dom stiffened next to me, but I wasn’t offended. It was an honest question. “We need more wolves with us for this,” I answered. “And we need your help, Leo.”
He blinked. “Myhelp?”
“Yes. You and your wolves have been here for a while. You know the area, and that gives us an edge. We need your?—”
“No.” Leo’s sudden refusal caused silence to ripple around us. Even he seemed surprised at first, but then his face hardened. “No,” he repeated. “I lost a third of my pack in that attack. Those are lives I’ll never be able to get back, and I can’t put my people at risk again. Not so soon after those losses.”
“Leo—”
“I’m sorry.” He raised his voice to speak over me. “But I can’t help you. I can’t afford it.”
He walked away from us before I could say anything else. Cat followed him, calling his name.
“Well, shit,” Lance said. “Now what?”
Bryn started walking toward Leo and Cat. “Maybe if I talk to him, I can change his mind.”
I touched her shoulder to stop her. “Bryn, wait. Let me try talking to him first.”
