“Sure.”

The apartment had an open floor plan, so the kitchen was just a few steps away. They were soon on the couch, next to each other but also facing each other. It was almost the same position they’d been in at the reunion, like they were drawn together.

“It’s great to have you here,” she told him, her eyes soft as she set her mug down on the coffee table. “I never thought it would happen, but it’s nice.”

“It is,” he agreed. “Tina, why didn’t we ever pursue a relationship when we were younger?”

She shrugged a little, her eyebrows tweaking as she pushed the crocheted throw blanket out of her way. “We ran in completely different circles. We had different friends and different interests. My friends weren’t exactly big fans of yours, and I don’t think your friends were very keen on me, either.”

“They didn’t think smart girls were worth the time,” he told her, remembering some of the conversations he and the boys had after football practice. “At that age, they just wanted to get in a girl’s pants instead of her mind.”

She chuckled at that. “I’m sure that’s true. I admit that, for a while, I believed a couple who was fated could work through anything. It didn’t matter if they liked the same things or not. That didn’t seem to be the case with us. Every time we hung out, it was like fate was pushing us together, but the rest of the world was pulling us apart.”

“That all seems so stupid to me now. I wish I could go back and talk to my younger self about what really mattered. That was a lot of time wasted.” He took her hand, rubbing his thumb along the back of it. Her fingertips were still warm from where she’d held her mug.

She had her head bent as she watched their hands moving together. “We can’t really say that. Maybe there were other things we were meant to do. You’ve got Sage, for example.”

“And I wouldn’t trade her for the world. You could be right, or there’s another theory I’ve got.” He felt his palms tingling and his wolf slowly rolling, pleased to be so close to her. Alone.

“What’s that?”

“Maybe, like you said, we were destined to go do other things for a while, to have other life experiences separate from each other. But then, when I walked up to that display case and you were there, it was like fate had drawn us back together. We knew what we felt for each other when we were younger, but maybe we just weren’t ready for it yet.”

Her breath was shallow, her lips slightly parted. “And now?”

“Now, I don’t want to let myself miss an opportunity because of stupid things like that. I feel just as drawn to you now. More, actually.” Dex could feel every part of his body leaning toward her, desiring her, craving her. How had he been strong enough in those earlier years to ever resist such a pull? No, he realized. He hadn’t been strong at all. He’d been an idiot. Now, as he looked into her eyes, he finally saw the destiny that’d been waiting for him this whole time.

“Dex?” Her voice trembled.

“Yes?”

“Kiss me.”

His hand slipped up her arm, past the delicate rhinestone bracelet on her wrist, and he pulled her toward him as he leaned in. His lips met hers, and instantly his wolf cried out in victory. Her lips were soft, pliable, and sweet, a hint of the honey from her tea still lingering.

Her hand had ended up on his knee, and her fingertips pressed into him as she deepened the kiss. The first touch was cautious, but then the connection between them grew. Shebegan to kiss him with more urgency, more need. A tiny moan escaped her lips as she parted them.

That moan echoed deep within him, and his hands moved to her waist. He traced her luscious curves through the satin of her dress, his tongue slipping into the warm recesses of her mouth.

Tina tipped her head back, bringing him further inside as their tongues twined together. She explored him eagerly, tasting him, taking him in, and then taking over once again.

Dex’s head spun as they dove into this new aspect of their fate. His hands roved up her back until he found the top of her zipper. He slid it slowly down her back, letting his other hand follow behind in the zipper’s wake so that he could feel her skin inch by inch as it was revealed. His fingers slid down over the clasp of her strapless bra and the gentle ridges of her spine until the zipper stopped just below the waist of her panties.

He loved the velvet of her tongue, but he longed to take in every inch of her. Dex’s kisses roved along her jawline to her earlobe, where his tongue played with the rhinestone earring that matched her bracelet. Her perfume was warm and spicy, a musk that smelled of desire.

He dropped kisses down the side of her neck and shoulder, where he pushed aside her dress strap, grazing the bare skin beneath it. With the zipper and strap undone, the top of her dress slipped down to reveal the black lace of her bra. She already drove him wild, but that peek was enough to make him crazy. Dex pushed away the other strap and peeled away the rest of the sapphire blue satin, barely controlling himself enough to keep from tearing the delicate fabric.

Tina’s hands were busy, too. She pulled his tie loose and flicked open his shirt buttons one by one. Her hands spread across his chest, her touch sending lightning bolts of electricity through his skin. Her fingers moved up to his shoulders andthen down his arms, pushing away the shirt and casting it aside with abandon before she reached for his belt buckle.

Though he hated to put any distance between them, Dex leaned back to take all of her in. His eyes traced up from her bare feet, her shoes discarded on the floor nearby. Her legs were long and supple, soft but strong, and her generous thighs called to him. Her black cotton panties were modest, but as he ran his hands up her thighs, he longed to discover what was beneath them. The curve of her hips was enticing, especially where her body nipped in slightly at the base of her ribs. Then there were the tempting globes of her breasts, just barely contained by that black lace.

Most tempting of all was the look on her face, her eyes soft, her lips slightly parted. She looked just as hungry as his wolf felt.

“What is it?” she asked.

How could he even begin to describe her beauty? “It’s everything.”

He released her breasts with a snap of his fingers on the bra’s clasp. Dex took each of them in his hands, luxuriating in their weight. He brushed his thumbs over her nipples, pleased by the way they hardened at his touch. Dex pulled one into his mouth, licking and sucking, pressing himself against her so that he could feel the touch of their bodies.
