And then she fell over the edge. Her legs shook so violently that she was glad they were on the settee, that she did not have tostand until she was ready. No longer caring who heard, she cried out his name.
Leo continued to thrust into her until she felt him start to shake. He pulled her face to his and kissed her until their breathing returned to normal.
“Now, do you see what it is like to belong to me, wife?” Leo smirked, tying the laces on his pants. “I dare say that you quite enjoyed it.”
“If I were not worried about the girls finding us, I would never get dressed again,” she laughed. “But they have to come back to let us out. We have been in the library for hours.”
“Be careful what you wish for.”
He chuckled as he helped her pull the dress back up over her shoulders, fastening the buttons along the back. He was almost to the nape of her neck when they heard the girlish giggles.
“You don’t think they have been outside the door this whole time, do you?”
Margaret tried to remember how loud she had been. The last thing she wanted was for the girls to suspect what she and their uncle had been doing.
Leo shook his head. “They never stay too long after they pull a trick. Plus, wife, I would not embarrass you like that. I’ve been at war, remember? I can hear my enemies approaching from afar.”
“Did you just call those sweet little girls your ‘enemies’?” Margaret giggled as he kissed the back of her neck.
“I’ll have to consider them as such, since they stop me from making love to you again,” he murmured against her skin.
She took a deep breath, but she didn’t have time to reply.
The door rattled and clicked open just as Leo did the top button on her gown. He took a step back from her, but it would not be enough for anyone to believe that they had simply been reading in the library. After all, Margaret’s hair was loose around her shoulders, tangled and mussed where his hands had run through it.
“Have you two naughty girls had your fun?” Margaret asked with a laugh.
How could she be upset with them when they had managed to bring her and Leo together?
Perhaps they were smarter than she had thought.
Annie and Kitty tumbled into the library and clung to her skirts.
“Have you and Uncle made up?” Kitty asked shyly. She peeked from behind Margaret’s skirts, looking at her uncle.
“We have,” Leo said, smiling. “But that does not excuse the very naughty thing you two have done by locking us in here. You must never do that again, do you hear?”
“Does that mean that you will really be our aunt now?” Annie asked.
“Yes,” Margaret said, hugging the girl close to her. “You two are part of my family now. You will belong to me just as much as you belong to your uncle.”
“We are sorry for locking you in here,” Kitty blurted.
To her credit, she did look apologetic.
Her sincerity made Margaret laugh, and she scooped the girl up into her arms. “What do you say we go to the kitchen for some juice?”
“You girls head down to the kitchen. Aunt Margaret and I will be done soon. Tell the servants you want four glasses of juice in the front sitting room,” Leo instructed, and Margaret set Kitty down.
Leo grabbed Margaret by the wrist when she made to walk out of the room.
Annie and Kitty raced out of the room, their little feet pattering down the stone stairs.
“I just wanted to remind you that you are mine now,” Leo said, pulling Margaret close to him.
“How could I forget, dear husband?”
“There is one more thing that I want to say,” he added, refusing to let her go. “You have been brave enough to tell me how you feel. It is only fair that I tell you that I am in love with you, dear wife.”
