She pulled him nearer, and as she did, he moved his hips, positioning his cock at her opening. “Is this…is this going to hurt?” she whispered, but Phineas shook his head.

“No, my darling.” The soft locks of his hair brushed against her cheek as he kissed her neck. “It may be a bit uncomfortable for a moment, but I would never hurt you. Never.”

She nodded and kissed his lips. “Then, I am ready.” He rocked forward, and all at once, Christianna felt her muscles quiver. It was not an entirely unpleasant sensation, but it did create an ache in her lower abdomen. Phineas continued to kiss her gently as he slid himself further and further inside her.

Once he was buried to the hilt, he smiled serenely at her. “You are mine now, really and truly.”

“I already was yours, Phineas,” she whispered as she tipped her hips forward. “You must have known all along that this was how things were going to end for us. I was going to be yours, and you were going to be mine.”

He laughed. “I may be knowledgeable on many subjects, but this, Christianna…it is all new to me.” As she kissed him again, his hips began moving in a slow but rhythmic way. With each thrust, her muscles loosened, and she felt pressure building elsewhere inside her. The way he was touching her was so new, so thrilling, that her heart thrummed wildly, and her pulse quickened. She slid down a little, and Phineas groaned, “Oh, Christianna.”

Hearing him say her name in such a way enlivened her further, and she wrapped both hands around his neck, wanting him to plunge deeper and deeper. He did, and as she panted, she realised that her legs were trembling. “Phineas,” she panted as their bodies rocked in unison, “I…I do not know what is happening. I feel…”

“Just let go. Just let it happen,” he said, and as the words escaped him, her whole body bucked. The muscles in her core spasmed, and she shouted in ecstasy.

“Yes…yes…oh, Phineas! Yes!” A joy she had never experienced before came over her, and as she was relishing this first climax, Phineas gave an equally triumphant shout. His words were unintelligible, but a moment later, his hips stopped moving, and he lowered himself fully on top of her so that their chests were pressed together, and Christianna was not sure if that was her heart making the thundering racket or his.

“Darling,” Phineas whispered as he rolled off her and came to rest at her side.

“Hmmm…?” she hummed as she reached over and brushed her fingertips along his cheekbone where the smattering of freckles was most populated.

“I know that you must return to your room soon, but do not go yet.”

Christianna looked at him lovingly. “You wish for me to stay?”

Phineas sighed dreamily. “I never want you to leave.”

She dropped her hand away from his face and snuggled nearer to him. He lifted his arm lazily and draped it around her midsection. “But I must go back to my room,” she whispered. “If I do not, someone will surely find me here, and then everyone will know how I feel for you.”

“Let them find out,” Phineas said sleepily as he relaxed his grip on her waist. “I have you. I do not care what anyone else thinks.” His eyes drooped, and he scooted closer to her, laying his head on her chest once more. “We are together, Christianna. At last.”

Christianna watched as he drifted to sleep. She ran her fingers through his hair and saw it when a pleased smile crept onto his lips. She wished to rouse him just so she could look into his beautiful eyes once more, but she resisted the urge.

All that can wait until tomorrow.

Once she was sure he was sound asleep, Christianna wriggled away from him, slid out of bed, dressed in her nightgown once more, and then prepared to leave his room. With her hand on the doorknob, Christianna turned to look at Phineas’ sleeping form one last time. “I do love you,” she whispered. “No matter what happens next, try not to forget that.”

Chapter 18

The next morning, Phineas awakened and was only a little surprised to see Christianna was not still lying in bed next to him.

I suppose she had to do the pragmatic thing and return to her room.

But he missed her already. He rolled over and gazed out the window. The sparkling moon had long been replaced by the warm summer sunshine as he could see the orb was much higher in the sky than it should have been.

Have I overslept? Did I maybe even miss breakfast?

While it might not have made any difference had this been just another day, he did not want to waste a single moment sleeping, while the alternatives were so appealing. He dropped his legs over the side of the bed and stood quickly.

Perhaps Christianna is already waiting for me in the library.

He rarely used or needed the assistance of a valet to get dressed, so he went about his toilette quickly that morning without ringing for his manservant. As he left his bedchambers, Phineas nearly bounded down the hall and galloped down the staircase, as his need to see Christianna again was so all-consuming. He could vividly recall the way she had reached her climax last night and had not just shouted in pleasure but had called his name.

She loves me.

Phineas smiled to himself as he leapt lightly from the last step and turned so that he could head directly toward the library.

“My boy…” He paused when he heard Uncle Felton summon him.
