And he seemed just as surprised to see me, eyes glazing over me with a mix of hunger, shock, and lust. I was wearing a sexy pajama set that I’d unpacked that afternoon out of the boxes Aria mailed to me, a tank top that formed a ‘v’ andshowed a little bit of my cleavage and shorts that hardly went over my ass. I should feel embarrassed, but I didn’t.

“What are you doing here?” I asked.

He blinked a couple times before meeting my gaze and holding up something in his hand. “I had something for your grandfather.”

I started to take it from his hand. “I’ll make sure to get it to him.”

He grabbed my wrist before I could grab it. “For some reason, I don’t believe you.”

“Are you calling me a liar?”

He smirked. “There are a lot of things I’d call you. Let’s start with sexy.”

My heartrate picked up.Isn’t this what I want?Fuck him until he was out of my system?

It was go time.

Chapter ten

Richie

Why is she looking at me like that?

Kandis was staring at me hard as if she could see something in me that nobody else could. Her lips parted, and I noticed how close we were, so much so that we were breathing the same air.

Briefly I thought about the night that we shared together in the back of my car when I took her virginity, but the second that the thoughts fly into my mind, I was eagerly pushing them out because I didn’t need to be reminded of a past that wasn’t going to happen again even if I desperately want it to.

“When is your grandfather going to return?” I asked her, needing to talk about something else before I did something I’d regret, like throwing her up against the wall and reminding her what it would be like if she didn’t insist on hating me.

Then again, I doubted that was something either of us would regret.

She didn’t respond, looking like she was in her own little world, which was weird for her, considering she always hadsome smart-ass remark to make where I was concerned. I gripped her wrist a bit harder, not enough to hurt her, just to gain her attention. “Kandis.”

Her eyes darted up towards mine, and something flashed in them quickly that I didn’t get the chance to discern. “I looked you up.”

The words shouldn’t surprise me as much as they do, considering if the roles had been reversed, I would have looked her up a long time ago.

My mind flashed through every magazine article that’d been about me or that I’d been on the cover of, and frustration filled throughout my body. There were things I would have liked for her to not know, but it was clearly far too late for that now.

“What about it?” Was she telling me this in an attempt to have the upper hand? If that’s what she thought was going to happen, then she was sadly mistaken.

I was famous by all means of the word which meant that my public life was out there whether I wanted it to be or not. There was nothing new that she could learn that a hundred thousand already hadn’t.

Her bottom lip disappeared beneath her teeth, and she swallowed, like a little kid that’s about to tell a huge secret. “That changes things.”

“What? You think you’re in charge now?” I laughed, but it lacked any amount of humor because nothing about this situation was funny to me. Maybe it was because I’m so used to being in control that when something happened outside of my reach, it frustrated me. “I don’t mean to burst your bubble, but it doesn’t change anything.”

She eyed me a bit cautiously. “It’s nothing to be ashamed of.”

I released her wrist, starting to feel sick at this conversation. “Is this some kind of twisted game to you?” My voice was rising even as I was desperately attempting to keep mycool. “You think this is all funny because you can torture me with information that everyone already knows?”

“If you would let me talk then maybe you would know exactly what I think.” She took a step towards me, keeping eye contact the entire time and making one thing clear. She wasn’t afraid nor intimidated by me.

That’s a first.

And I didn’t know how I feel about it.

“If you want to talk so badly, talk.”
