A few hours later, Kyra was going through the printouts of the presentation and the advertising flyers for the Roopganj project. She focused on the flyers and pondered whether to inform Adil that some of these ideas were awful.

The phone rang, distracting her from her thoughts. It was her Dad. He wanted to speak to Vaayu as his phone was unreachable. Vaayu had left the office half an hour ago. She thought he went out to get some air, but he must have gone somewhere else.

Kyra was shaking her head as she punched holes in the papers to file them in the labelled folder. She kept the folder in its place and heard the doorknob turn. She spun around, gasping at the entrant. The object of her fantasies stood in front of her, staring at her as though she was a pitcher of ice-cold beer on a hot, sunny day.

Kabir wasn’t supposed to be here. Yet he was…dressed in all black. With his hands in his pockets and a serious expression on his face, he looked tired yet sexy.

“What are you doing here?” She sputtered as a feeling of annoyance hit her.

“I’m just standing here.” Like a gentle caress, his eyes swept over her body.

“You know what I mean. What are you doing here in my cabin?” She questioned angrily.

“Technically, it’s my building, princess. So, it’s my cabin.” She involuntarily took a step back as Kabir strode towards her.

She exhaled as he approached her. “Well, you’re wrong.”

“I am not.” He advanced slowly towards her, like a panther stalking its prey. He invaded her personal space, looking utterly gorgeous.

“What are you doing?” Her back was knocked against the shelf as she backed away.

“Ensuring that you are real and not just my fantasy.” He effectively caged her by placing his arms on either side of the shelf. It looked like he was about to kiss her, and she was about to die from the shock of it.

Kyra’s pulse quickened. Her palms grew clammy, and a bead of sweat ran down her neck. She quickly turned her head away after catching a glimpse of his face because she wasn’t prepared to see what was written in his eyes.

“Would you please move?” She tried to soften her tone, realising it was too gruff. She took a deep breath and regretted it immediately as his luxurious perfume filled her senses. She almost moaned and berated herself for being silly. She hoped her reaction wouldn’t have shown Kabir her intense adoration for him to the point of obsession. “Don’t you have to go home?”

“I am home.” Kabir’s voice was guttural, almost a growl, and his eyes glittered in the fluorescent lights overhead.

His eyes lingered on her curves hidden behind a white silk shirt and a tight black skirt that dropped just above her knees. He wanted to lose himself in Kyra’s exquisite beauty when she muttered.

“What’s even the point of all this?”

Even in her four-inch heels, Kabir loomed over Kyra. “The point is... I can’t.”

“You can’t what?” Kyra frowned.

“I can’t forget.” He growled, very low.

She was flushed and suddenly conscious of the tingle of arousal between her thighs. She had no idea when that happened. She could see that he was breathing quickly too, and he looked as hot as she felt. Something new had blazed up in his eyes that reflected her feelings.

“I can’t forget how close we got in the cabin. I can’t forget how you seeped under my skin, how you won over my heart, how your soul merged with mine, how your words sealed my fate.”

“Don’t say things unless you mean them.” Kyra rasped.

“I always mean what I say.”

“I don’t believe you.”

“Right now, I don’t need you to believe me. I just want you to want me. Do you want me, princess?” Kabir inched closer.

Kyra could tell his mood had changed from what it was during their last encounter. The transformation left her breathless, as did his proximity. Her eyes were at his chin level, so she had to lift her head to meet his eyes. “I don’t want to talk to you.”

“That’s not the answer I want to hear.” His mouth twitched almost imperceptibly.

“That’s the only answer you’re going to get.” She swallowed hard, clenching her fists to keep herself from putting her hands on his chest. When he was like this—clever, dry, focused—she always seemed to want him the most.

“In that case, I would be happy to explore and find my own answers,” Before she could react, Kabir smashed his lips against hers in a passionate kiss that made her gasp for breath.
