“This is the first time anyone has called me Bir.” Kabir had an unreadable look on his face.
“You don’t like it?” She frowned.
“I love it.” He nuzzled her neck. “Let’s get the fuck out of here before I forget that you deserve your first time on a bed rather than against a wall in an office.”
SEVENTEEN
Kabir accelerated the car in the direction opposite to his house. He controlled the driving wheel with one hand while possessively holding Kyra’s hand in the other.
“Where are we going? Isn’t your house on the right?” Kyra asked.
“Pyramid One, my other house near Utopia.” Kabir breathed out loud, adjusting his glasses.
“Why do you have a second house there?” Kyra squinted her eyes.
“For the sake of my sanity. I simply go there to get some quiet time when I’m stressed. Except for my brothers, nobody is privy to it. Sometimes, constantly being around my family makes me crazy. I get a break from the chaos here. Don’t think too much about it.” Kabir sighed.
He had no plans to bring Kyra to his hideout. In all honesty, he hadn’t intended for Kyra to spend the night at his house following the office visit. But he was certain he would not take her to his apartment, where he lived close to his interfering brothers and their spouses.
He had to tell Adil the truth about what was happening between him and Kyra since Adil trusted him. Particularly, Mira needed to know. As he cranked the engine, he looked at Kyra, who had a wilted expression on her face.
“Don’t look so sad, darling. I am not trying to hide this if that’s what you’re worried about.”
“And you think taking me to an unknown place validates your statement??” She whipped her head away as her self-doubt resurfaced.
“Baby, I don’t need anyone to validate what’s going to happen between us moving forward since it’s our business and nobody else’s. I’m not taking you to Utopia because you know my brothers live in the same building as me, and lately, they’ve gotten damn nosey. Moreover, they are protective of you. And I don’t want your sister to know about us like this…when we are at such a nascent stage of this...relationship.” They locked eyes, and he kissed the back of her hand before focusing on the road ahead of them.
“And more importantly, I don’t want them to meddle and make up stories about why we are together. Right now, I want you all to myself. I want all your attention on us and not on anything else. What we are about to share is sacred and special. I don’t want any pressure as we explore our relationship. I hope you get it, Ky.”
“I’ll have to agree with you on that,” Kyra replied in relief. “You know exactly what to do all the time. You’re so thoughtful.”
“And you’re so beautiful.” He planted a wet kiss on her hand and butterflies fluttered in her stomach.
She didn’t need to worry about him taking advantage of her. He squeezed her hand, and she gave him a reassuring smile. The rest of the drive was quiet. Kabir didn’t take any calls and put his phone on silent.
Once they reached a sleek, white pristine building that reeked luxury, Kabir drove the car inside the basement. Parking the car in its place, he got out to open Kyra’s door.
Kyra got out of the car and stumbled, crashing onto Kabir’s muscular front. “Oops. Sorry, I should have watched my step—”
Kabir put a finger to her lips to stop her from apologising and drew her into the warmth of his solid chest. “Stop apologising at the drop of a hat. I’ve got you, princess. I’ll always catch you when you fall.”
And in an instant, Kabir had staked his claim on the last piece of Kyra’s heart that was guarding itself out of self-preservation. Despite all her worries, he had captivated her heart and soul; all other worries seemed meaningless now.
After exiting the elevator, Kabir guided Kyra through the opulent foyer, which was carpeted with a plush mat. He halted in front of a chic, modern-looking cherry wood door with a cutting-edge security system installed beside it. Entering the passcode and using the fingerprint scanner, Kabir unlocked the door and wasted no time leading them into the hallway, which opened to an incredibly cosy living area.
Kyra gasped on stepping inside and looked around. The house was entirely white, contemporary yet cosy, and sported bluish shades and tints. She adored the floor-to-ceiling windows that spanned the full wall of the living and dining space and gave the home a stunning panoramic view of the city.
“Wow. This is beautiful,” Kyra exclaimed.
“Yes. Beautiful indeed,” Kabir replied, looking at her.
Kyra felt the pressure of his scrutiny, and her eyes widened at the compliment. She thought that nothing could equal the tantalising electrical charge that his words sent through her. She was melting at his words. The intensity of his gaze caused her to blush severely, and she whirled around to head towards the corridor that led her to none other than the kitchen. She could tell Kabir was following her. She felt his subdued footfalls.
“So, we are in the…kitchen,” Kyra murmured quietly. She felt foolish for walking away and entering the kitchen. She was acting as though the house was hers and not Kabir’s.
It was dark in there. She flicked on a switch, and lights flooded the space. But still, it felt like the shadows were engulfing her.Not just her.Engulfing them.
Kabir entered the kitchen.
