Raina lowered herself onto the couch. She looked around the place idly, then focused on Kyra. Alarmed by the silent scrutiny, Kyra murmured, “What do you want to discuss?” Kyra’s phone rang again, and she silenced it without realising she had answered the call.
“Leave Kabir,” Raina stated.
“Excuse me?” Kyra squinted.
“Leave Kabir. Forever.” Raina declared.
Kyra spoke calmly, but she was boiling inside. “I’m not sure what you’re trying to say.”
“Break up with Kabir, is what I’m trying to say. Leave him once and for all.”
“Is that a threat or some kind of a sick joke?” Kyra forced a laugh.
“It’s an order.” Raina snapped.
“That’s ridiculous. I don’t take orders from anyone.” Kyra huffed.
“Don’t act smart, Kyra. I know you will obey this order.” Raina leaned back comfortably with an evil glint in her eyes.
“Keep on dreaming. What I don’t understand is you were the one to break up with Kabir. Now, suddenly you want to get back with him because he has moved on?”
“You don’t deserve a justification from me,” Raina said arrogantly.
“I very much do when you’re trying to bulldoze your way between me and my boyfriend with all your nonsense.” Kyra felt a zap of anger at Raina’s words.
“Not when the said boyfriend is the father of my unborn baby.” Raina disclosed smugly. “I’m pregnant, bitch.”
????
Silence.
A deafening silence ruled the room. Kyra let the revelation settle in before analysing what it meant for Kabir and her and how she should react. Kyra was shocked when she realised what Raina had just said. Her mouth was hanging open as she watched Raina with a mix of terror and worry. She sat on the couch with a thud, hoping that something would jolt her out of her nightmare starring Raina fucking Dutta.
Was this her idea of a joke? Did she even know what it meant?
“You’re joking.” Kyra sputtered.
“I’m not.” Raina handed her a positive pregnancy report and an ultrasound.
“Are you sure it’s Kabir’s? I mean, you guys broke up. For all I care, you’re lying.” Kyra snapped, looking at what was a baby’s ultrasound. Her hands shook, and her mind whirred.
“I’m five months along. Do the fucking math. I clearly remember we had raunchy sex right before I broke up with him six months ago.” Raina spoke with a villainous streak. “He couldn’t turn me down that time. We were so good together.”
Raina could be lying. But who in the world would joke about getting knocked up? Maybe Raina should have swung an axe at Kyra’s leg instead of saying this.
“So, you’re pregnant, and Kabir doesn’t know. I really don’t believe you.” Kyra’s stomach churned. What if this was real?
“I will tell him soon. But when I do, I don’t want him to be distracted by you. A mere fuck buddy.”
“We are in a relationship.” Kyra erupted furiously.
She knew Raina wanted to hurt her, and it worked. It felt like someone had snatched her heart, cut it into pieces, and put it in the incinerator. Like a masochist, her brain couldn’t stop imagining Kabir and Raina together. It boiled her blood to the point of destroying the entire world, but she remained silent.
“A relationship that has no future. Kyra, you’re an intelligent businesswoman. Why can’t you understand that I want to give this baby a chance to lead a normal life?”
“You want to take away Kabir’s choices.” Kyra fumed.
“I want to make a real family together. Once he knows, Kabir won’t be satisfied with a half-assed part in his baby’s life, and you know it.”
