“That’s too soon. How will I manage everything? We have to have a family dinner before that. A farewell party for you—” Vrinda was already making a list.
“Mom. Stop it. No farewell dinners or parties, please. I’m not going forever. And I want to start working there as soon as possible. These things will just eat away my time.”
“But...”
“Please, Mom, Dad. I don’t need any party. I have never gone against your word ever. And now, I need one favour from you. Please don’t say anything to Mira and Nitya yet. Don’t tell anyone anything. I will figure out when to tell them.”
“Why would you do that? You are their baby sister, sweetie.” Digvijay was the one to frown now.
“Exactly. You know how protective they are. Please, I beg you. Don’t tell anyone.”
“Okay, sweetheart. We don’t know what you’re trying to achieve here, but fine. Your secret is safe with us until you tell them.” Her parents assured her.

Present Day
“Kyra!”
Her Mom’s concerned voice called out to her and scared the living daylights out of her. Kyra looked up, confused and was caught off guard to see her mother at her home.
“What are you doing here, Mom?” Kyra sniffled, still looking shocked. For how long was her Mom at her house?
“I was here to drop off some homemade cookies I baked today. But that’s not important, sweetie. Tell me what happened. Why do you look as though you’ve been crying? Is everything okay?” Her Mom’s voice was gentle. She hugged Kyra tightly, making her feel safe and cherished in her mother’s cocoon. She could feel her mother’s love seep into her.
That was all Kyra needed to let go of her emotions. The love her mother had for each of them was intense.Even while she was working, she did everything she could for them. Kyra felt her emotional dam break, and she cried in her Mom’s embrace.
“No, It’s just that... I broke up with my boyfriend.” She started sobbing hysterically as she realised what she just spoke.
“You had a boyfriend?” Vrinda asked, shocked. “But... you never told us anything. Who was he?”
“Yes. I’m sorry, Mom, but can we not talk about it right now?” Kyra grumbled.
“Talk to me, Kyra. Such a major thing happened in your life, yet I was unaware of it. Why didn’t you tell me, sweetie? How do you think I would feel? When did this breakup happen?” Vrinda was perplexed, but she nevertheless embraced Kyra and comforted her.
“Right now.” Kyra’s voice trembled.
“How long was this relationship?” Her Mom rubbed her back.
“Two months long.”
“Did he cheat on you? Do I need to kick some frat boy’s ass?”
“No, Mom. He didn’t.” Kyra choked up. “I was the one who broke up with him.”
“I thought he ended things seeing the way you’re mooning over this breakup. Why did you break up if you’re so sad about it?”
“There are some things that are… complicated. It’s complicated.”
“Is he the reason for your decision to move countries?”
“Not exactly…but he is a part of the reason.” Kyra looked at her Mom’s serious face.
Vrinda withdrew from the embrace and looked closely at her daughter. Kyra looked much older than her age. Her baby had grown up.For a brief moment, she felt the mom guilt eat her for not checking up on her baby girl to see how she was doing after she moved out of their house.
“My child, I don’t know exactly what happened between you both. But I will tell you one thing for sure.Love is tough and needs patience. You can’t just give up on someone you love.” Her mother reasoned.
“What if there is no choice?”
