“Well, that was enough excitement for one day.” Nitya exhaled. “She is so shameless. She didn’t have a pinch of regret for what she did.”
“Criminal-minded people have no soul or empathy. They don’t feel things the way we do.” Rudra explained. “By the way, we have deleted that video from every device it was stored on. You don’t have to worry about it anymore.” He gave Nitya an intense look, and she immediately diverted her gaze.
“Thank you, Rudra. I’m so grateful for your help,” Nitya replied, her eyes on the floor.
“It’s my job, Nitya. You take care. I just hope we meet under different circumstances next time,” Rudra replied politely.
“Rudra, thanks for coming to our rescue once again,” Kabir said as they shook hands.
“No need to thank me. Anytime you need any help, just give me a call. I’ll take your leave now.” He looked at everyone. “See you guys.” Rudra left the room with his entourage, and the room fell silent.
“Now that everything is sorted, do you plan to get your girl back?” Adil teased Kabir.
“We have to stop Kyra from boarding that plane,” Vaayu spoke.
“I called aunty just now, and she told me Kyra left for the airport about twenty minutes ago,” Ruhi replied.
“I think I know what I have to do. But first, I want to thank you guys for helping me with this mess. It wouldn’t have been possible to do this without you all. Especially Ritik. You did a great job. I have no idea how I’ll repay the favour.” He enveloped Ritik in a bear hug.
“You’re welcome, Bira. I will undoubtedly cash in the favour when the time comes.I am shameless like that.” Ritik teased.
“We know that.” Kabir winked, and he turned to Adil and Mira. “I don’t know what I would have done without you both.Mira, thanks for recording that call, even if it was by mistake. And thanks for telling me everything. Adi, I never say this enough, but I’m damn lucky to have you in my life. I shudder to even think about what would have happened if you both had not knocked on my door that night.”
“You’re my brother, Bira. You don’t need to thank any of us.” Adil hugged him tightly. Kabir felt his throat tighten with emotion as he returned the hug and faced Vaayu.
“Don’t tell me you’re going to cry now.” Vaayu rolled his eyes.
“No, idiot. I’m not. I’m going to hug you right now.” He enveloped him in a tight hug and spoke. “Vaayu, thanks for being there for me and managing things responsibly when I was in Shimla and even now. I owe you, man. I didn’t get a chance to tell you that I have the best brother on earth.”
“Fuck off, Romeo. You don’t owe us anything. Get your girl back. That will be our reward for helping you.” Vaayu smiled.
“He is right, Kabir. You don’t owe us anything,” Ruhi said.
“Thanks, Kabir and Adil, for saving my reputation too. I don’t know what would have happened if you hadn’t planned this sting operation and hadn’t called Rudra.” Nitya stood in front of Kabir and Adil with tearful eyes.
“You are welcome, Nitya. We are family, and helping each other in time of need is what families do.” Kabir grinned as he hugged her. Adil, too, hugged Nitya, giving her a safety cocoon that only a big brother can.
“By the way, Kabir, aren’t you forgetting to thank someone else?” Vrinda Kapoor stood at the entrance with her husband, Digvijay, in toe, taking everyone by surprise.
“Mom, Dad.” Mira flew past everyone to hug them.
“Hi, baby.” Vrinda hugged her.
Kabir approached Vrinda and stood in front of her. Holding her hand in his, he spoke, “Aunty, how could I forget to thank you? You were the one who knew Kyra was not okay. Had you not called Mira immediately, I would have made the biggest mistake of my life.”
“I was kidding, dear. Please don’t thank me. That’s what a mother does for her children. I’m just happy I was right to go with my gut instinct. Now, please go and stop my girl from boarding that plane.” Vrinda patted Kabir’s cheek affectionately.
TWENTY-FIVE
Kabir quietly observed Kyra from a discreet vantage point as she waited for her flight in the VIP lounge of the airport. She looked absolutely stunning in a yellow sweater and black jeans that hugged her delicate figure perfectly. Her hair was open, and her beauty was evident even from a distance.
Kabir set the plan in motion as soon as he arrived at the airport. He couldn’t wait to apologise to his princess, hug and kiss her passionately till they both forgot everything that went wrong in the last few days.
He thought of the compassion in her eyes, her unwavering contentment and her acceptance of him and their two-month relationship despite their age gap and his reclusive personality. She was kind to Raina even when she threatened her. He understood that Kyra had sacrificed her love for the greater good, only thinking about the unborn child and his future. She had traded her happiness for her sister’s reputation. Kyra was a selfless woman, and she proved it with her actions.
He was an idiot for believing her words when she broke up with him. He had humiliated her in the heat of the moment by shoving her away that night. He wished he could go back in time and take back the hurtful things he had said to her.He recalled how she endured his rage and hatred at that time. He recalled how she kissed him goodbye with poiseeven when she was hurting from the inside. She was everything to him, and he just let her go.
Kabir was overcome by an emotion he had never experienced before. The lump in his throat threatened to overwhelm him. He loved her.Somehow, somewhere Kyra Kapoor had captured his heart. He had fallen in love. Everything he had ever known or believed was upended by the epiphany of his emotions.
