She called his number that she had stored long ago but never got around to using it. The automated voice on the other side informed her that the number was out of network coverage.

“What the heck. Where are you, Kabir?”She mumbled. She massaged her forehead with the tip of her fingers.

She didn’t need this shit; she was already exhausted. Instead of waiting within the building, she decided to wait outside. She might as well take advantage of the weather and enjoy it. She moved toward the sitting area in the foyer, and a flurry of rain stung her face. There was a relentless downpour, and it was bitterly cold and windy. The rain, which had started earlier, promised to last all night. All other sounds were drowned out by a torrent of water that pounded on the earth.

Walking past the foyer, Kyra extended her palm out to feel the drops of water. A joyful feeling grew in her chest as raindrops dripped down her fingertips. She noticed some people on the opposite side of the street shielding their heads, scurrying for a shed, and others in their raincoats and umbrellas. She looked down at the muddy ground and the surrounding puddles of water as a cool breeze blew, reviving her and calming her weariness.

Looking down at her wet clothes, she thanked herself for skipping her normal skirt suit in favour of a dark-coloured blue tunic and leggings. Without giving it any thought, she hurried outside into the rain while keeping her phone in her bag. When she put her palms out and looked up at the sky, the euphoric feeling of rain made her beam. In a split second, she was drenched. Her clothes clung to her like a second skin. Her attention was drawn to the children who were standing nearby. They stood in the shed with their mothers, waiting for the rain to stop. With a wide grin, she beckoned them to join her, and the children sprinted for her like ants toward the sugar box. They all laughed and danced gleefully.

She felt content, free like a bird. Or maybe like a peacock dancing in the rain. She laughed loudly before she felt someone grab her hand. Swiftly, she paused to turn, only to come face to face with the man whose probing stare was apparently designed to quicken her heartbeat.

????

It never occurred to Kabir that his car breaking down in the basement parking lot would result in him witnessing the most stunning woman on the planet dancing in the rain. A wave of lust swept through his body as he observed the scene unfold.

As he stepped outside in the open, he knew he was going to act out of character, and his legs ate up the distance between him and Kyra. By the time he reached her, he was completely soaked. Water dripped into his eyes, and raindrops sluiced down his neck inside his ruined suit.

Water droplets clung to his glasses as he faced Kyra, who was surrounded by excited kids. The fire in his eyes swept down her face and followed every curve of her body. A dark blue, sleeveless tunic covered her drenched body entirely, yet some areas clung to her, leaving no room for imagination.

He couldn’t hear anything against the rumble in his chest as he watched her dance in the magnificence of nature while the sound of the rain echoed in his ears. With each drop of rain that soaked into her hair, he could see her gorgeousness rising a bit more, her milky white skin shining like a pearl. He approached her nervously before gazing into her startled, chocolate-brown eyes.

“K-Kabir...” She stumbled back.

He held her around her bare shoulder, supporting her before she lost her balance.

“Get in the car,” he commanded.

His body buzzed with desire as his palm touched her skin. Just as he was about to apologise for not alerting her sooner about the car breaking down in the basement, he saw some guys on the street staring at her drenched figure like a pack of wolves.

She, undoubtedly, resembled a wet dream, but how dare they eye her like that?Kabir felt possessive, protective, paranoid and wanted to punch something. He wanted Kyra to get in the car, which was going to be a mountain of a task because she was so stubborn.

“I was waiting for you—” Kyra’s sentence was cut off before she could finish it.

“By dancing in the rain?” His words were controlled but laced with temper. Using all his patience, he gently held her arm, nearly yanking her toward the car.

Glancing up at his face, Kyra was ready to ask him to back up. She didn’t need him to treat her like a kid. She was a grown, independent woman. But she didn’t say a thing; instead, she squinted at the scowl on his face.

“What’s wrong?” She asked again, thinking he might not have heard her calling him two minutes ago.

Kabir wasn’t amused. In fact, she felt pretty sure he sounded more pissed than he had a minute ago when he spoke next. “Let’s go, princess,” he commanded gruffly.

She narrowed her eyes. When did he start calling her princess?“Why do you sound so mad?”

“We’ll talk about it in the car,” he said, gesturing her forward, his tone lower than before.

“You sure?’’ She followed him helplessly.

He didn’t tear his eyes away from her as he answered gruffly. “Yeah.”

Kyra’s legs betrayed her as she took a step forward and wobbled, her chest hitting Kabir’s side, and she craned her neck back to give him a funny look. More lines were at his forehead and beneath his eyes than she’d ever seen.

What was up his ass?

Kyra stumbled while he literally stuffed her inside the car and threw his dry jacket over her. She could feel his gaze land on her chest, which was covered in a wet cotton tunic, showcasing her assets in an alluring way.

“Cover up yourself...” He muttered.

Kyra was young but not stupid to not notice the flair of interest in his eyes and how the tendons along his neck flexed. She was also pretty sure he muttered ‘Fuck’under his breath as he got inside the car.
