“I... I didn’t have a crush on him. I mean, I liked him. But it was before. Now I don’t even...” She rambled and turned to Nitya. “What the hell, Nitya? How could you tell them?” She was angry.

“Ky, Tiya didn’t betray you by telling us anything. It’s just that we always felt you liked Kabir. The way you looked starstruck around him made it pretty obvious, and then we saw you around him last year at Alibaug. We just shared our thoughts with Nitya, and she looked anxious. And she looks anxious only if she is lying. It just confirmed what we thought.” Mira shrugged.

“Then why tell me now, Di?” Kyra was humiliated.

“Because you’re not a little girl anymore, and Kabir is as single as they come.” Ruhi sipped her beer.

Kyra exhaled heavily as she fluffed her hair. “If you’re so hell-bent on assuming shit, let me tell you. Ihada crush on him. And I’m over it. And as for him being single, you don’t need to worry about anything as he undoubtedly finds me annoying and is the personification of a haughty jerk.”

“Haughty jerk? Kabir? I think you’re mistaking him for someone else.” Mira scoffed.

“No. In fact, I was mistaken about Kabir for a long time. Now I know the reality of this nerd brother. Ughh. Even discussing this is making me angry.” Kyra growled. “Can you please drop it now? I’m so hungry I could eat a horse.” Kyra sighed.

“Whoa. Remind me not to get on your bad side, sis.” Nitya hooked her arm with Kyra’s and motioned for the other two women to stop talking as she took Kyra away and out the door.

“Haughty jerk? Kabir? I think you’re mistaking him for someone else.” Mira scoffed.

“No. In fact, I was mistaken about Kabir for a long time. Now I know the reality of this nerd brother. Can you please drop it now? I’m so hungry I could eat a horse.” Kyra sighed.

“Whoa. Remind me not to get on your bad side, sis.”

Kabir and Vaayu were standing by the bedroom door and overheard Mira and Kyra arguing fiercely over Kabir. They needed to talk to Adil about the Roopganj project, so they both headed upstairs to look for him. They thought he would be in the bedroom after he went somewhere and wasn’t seen for a while. They quickly entered the open nursery after hearing some shuffling sound, and that’s when they heard the ladies. Vaayu spun and silently shut the door while wearing a murderous expression.

“What the fuck did you do, Bira?” Vaayu hissed. He was freaking out of his mind.

“That’s some level of trust you have in me, V.” His eyebrow twitched.

“And that’s how you gave out that you’re lying. Your eyebrow twitched. It only happens when you’re hiding something.” Vaayu huffed.

“I didn’t do a thing.” Kabir scoffed. “I don’t even know what the fuck they are going on about.”

“What happened when you brought her here?”

“Nothing. I just lost it when I saw her dancing in the rain, and some guys were staring at her lecherously.”

“So?” Vaayu raised a brow.

“So?” Kabir snapped. “V, those guys were eyeing her like she was a fucking snack.”

Vaayu’s eyes widened, and he bit his fist to control his laughter. “Fuck, man. I never thought I’d be telling you this. But Bira, you’re screwed.”

Kabir frowned as Vaayu snickered stealthily.

“She’s been eyeing you like you’re a fucking snack for the last few years, and you don’t have a bloody clue about it. And now you’re getting all jealous and shit.”

“I’m not jealous. I was being responsible. She’s a kid—”

“She’s not a kid. The teenager you recall is long gone. You can’t deny she was always pretty, doe-eyed, and just as beautiful inside out. But now…” Vaayu whistled, “Now, she’s a fucking knockout—”

Vaayu couldn’t finish his sentence as Kabir pushed him against a wall, holding him by his collar. “Don’t you dare finish that sentence, V. You fucker, I’ll sock you in the nuts. You’re married, for God’s sake...”

A triumphant smile covered Vaayu’s face as Kabir paused and scowled at him. “So, you weren’t jealous and possessive then? I don’t think I need more evidence to affirm that you, my brother, are screwed. I rest my case.” Vaayu held his hands in surrender. “If you’re done with being a macho man, leave my shirt, as it’ll get wrinkled.”

Kabir left his shirt and smoothed out the wrinkles on them. His jaw clenched, and he gritted his teeth at how easily Vaayu played him. If he wasn’t so distracted by Kyra and the incident before, he wouldn’t have fallen for this crap. Now he had to endure the smug smile on his brother’s face that annoyed the hell out of him. He closed his eyes to block out everything and composed himself. Once he opened his eyes, he felt better…in control.

He lightly punched Vaayu in the gut, ignoring the amusing look on his face. He went to turn the knob of the door to get out of the room and paused, looking over his shoulder, warning Vaayu.
