“So, is Vaayu joining you guys there?” Nitya asked.

Kyra rolled her eyes. “No.”

“Kabir?” Nitya hummed.

“No,” Kyra mumbled.

“Why? Aren’t you both supposed to be working together on this project?”

She turned and snapped. “I don’t know. Okay? I don’t need to know any of that stuff. Besides, you told me not to dwell on anything related to the middle brother, right?”

“Whoa... I thought you had gotten over your silly crush. Are we at that stage where we are not taking his name?” Nitya remarked.

“Don’t be childish, Nitya. Of course, I got over the silly crush. It’s just that we had a brief meeting inside that wretched cabin on the first day. And since then, we have not really communicated. Then we had a stupid argument that rainy night on the way to Di’s place. It seems he is too preoccupied to even talk to me about work. I guess he is ignoring me.”

“You are pissed. Babe, you gotta stop being pissed. Because if you’re over this silly crush, you have no reason to be pissed at him.”

“I am not pissed.” I declared.

“Yeah. Right,” she said.

Kyra sighed. Like she cared about Nitya’s ramblings and Kabir’s insanely hot looks.

“You need to go,” she told Nitya.

“I am, I am.” Nitya paused before she left her bedroom again. “You’re gonna do awesome.”

Kyra smiled at Nitya. “Thanks.”

“They won’t even blink twice before agreeing to all the contract terms and Adil’s design!” Nitya hollered as she walked down the hallway to her bedroom. There was a loud bang of the door closing, breaking the silence of the hour.

After checking all was okay with her appearance, she took her luggage and handbag and tucked her phone into the back pocket of her jeans. She then slipped into the comfy sneakers her sister picked out for her. At least Nitya allowed her to wear comfy shoes! She rolled her eyes inwardly.

She walked around the living room, feeling confident and excited about her trip. But as the clock ticked away, Kyra felt an uneasy feeling slithering through her veins as she waited for Adil to arrive. Hopefully, everything will go smoothly. Adil’s message buzzed on her phone.

‘The car has reached.’

For some unknown reason, her hands shook as she locked the apartment door behind her. After descending the flight of stairs, she reached the lobby. Beyond the entry door, she saw a man with broad shoulders covered by a midnight black shirt and black blazer, his hands tucked in his pants pockets. Her eyes narrowed.

Those shoulders... They were a bit too broad, and he was taller than Adil. She clutched the handbag strap and the luggage in one hand and noticed her hands shaking. He turned around, and she saw the deepest black eyes looking at her through the sexy as fuck eyeglasses.

She skidded to a halt.

No. No, no, no, this was all wrong. She was supposed to go with Adil. Not Kabir. At her hesitation, his hand emerged from his pants pockets to rub his neck, and she almost had a coronary as she spotted a flash of ink under his cuffs. Her eyes widened when he opened the door for her.

Kabir had a tattoo under his shirt?

This sparked her imagination that he might also have tattoos on other parts of his body, and her eyes fluttered with reckless excitement. It was time to stop thinking about him being shirtless. As long as she had strong feelings for Kabir, she shouldn’t travel with him. It would not happen, and since that rainy incident, she could not think of him without picturing herself punching him in the six-pack.

“You...” Kyra whispered.

She couldn’t even mask her reaction before her head began to shake. There was no smiling as he took her luggage bag and put it in the trunk of the car. He had a frown on his face, which she had seen directed at her way too many times. A scowl sliced over his clean-shaven jaw. But there was something else. He was the same, yet different.

“Not who you were expecting, I know,” he muttered, his eyes glancing down the front of her body. “Amaya is sick, so Adil couldn’t come. Guess you’re stuck with the nerdy brother for one day, princess.”

It took Kabir less than thirty seconds to realise he’d been duped. By his own brother. He was reviewing the new contract in his cabin, trying not to think about his breakup or how Kyra affected him, when Adil called him. He initially hesitated when Adil told him he needed to accompany Kyra to Roopganj because he couldn’t travel due to Amaya’s sickness. But his niece’s health was more important than anything else, so he agreed to go with her.
