“Exactly, you’ve known me since I was a child. So, no need for formality. By the way, it’s nice to see you. How is your health? How is your family?” Kabir was genuinely interested in knowing.

“You’re too kind, Kabir baba. Everyone is well and good. My son got married last year. He is expecting his first child soon.”

Shyamlal’s face brightened as he spoke about his family. Kabir gave the man a rare smile while gesturing to Kyra to follow him.

When Kyra saw Kabir cracking his first real smile of the trip, it transformed his handsome face into an even more gorgeous version, and she lost her footing in the deep snow. She shrieked and was about to fall flat on her face when powerful arms wrapped around her and encased her in the steely band of muscles that were Kabir’s arms, locking her securely in place.

She was startled and stared at Kabir in a daze as he stood in front of her. Her breast was squashed against his muscular front as her palms pressed against his shoulders. Her heart was beating faster, and her eyes caught the small, light-coloured mole below his lower lip on his chin. Involuntarily, she reached up to touch it. Kabir’s cold palm gripped her hand, stopping her.

She saw his Adam’s apple bob sexily as she was close to his enticing lips. The same lips she had long admired from a distance were now just a few centimetres away from her. She felt a gentle breeze amid a harsh snowstorm, which was far too filmy even for her straight-laced mind. Thank God, she couldn’t hear the non-existent guitars strumming in the air. She had goosebumps, and the tiny hairs on the back of her neck started to rise.

Shit. It had to be the cold weather. Or maybe she needed to stop reading cheesy romance novels. She felt a strange current pass through her as Kabir’s grip tightened around her waist. She welcomed the unfamiliar sensation. She had always dreamt of this but had no idea it would be such a roller coaster of feelings.

Maybe it was hormones. Yes, it ought to be.

“Kyra...”

“Hmm?” Hearing her name on his lips made her feel as though she was in heaven. Leaning mindlessly toward him, she closed her eyes.

“You only needed to ask me if I would give you a hug.”

“Huh?” She opened her eyes and sent a bewildered glance his way while focusing on his most vividly black eyes.

“There was no reason to risk getting hurt to be in my arms. If only you had asked nicely...” Kabir murmured, brushing a stray hair tendril behind her ear.

“Are you making fun of me?” Kyra shoved him away with all her might. “You seriously think I planned this fall?”

“I’m not implying that you planned it. But, I’ve seen a lot of women go through great efforts to get my attention,” he said casually, liking the thunderous look on her face.

“Sorry to break your bubble of fantasy, but I’m not trying to get your attention.” Kyra fumed.

“And still you have it, princess.”

Kabir drawled as she headed inside, breathing fire in his direction. He noticed that her face had turned a gorgeous shade of pink. He knew he was acting like an ass. But she was provoking him by rising to the bait. And God save him; he was beginning to dig it.

DAY 1

The moment Kabir caught Kyra in his arms, he forgot who she was. He was suddenly very aware that the body in front of him was of a female with voluptuous curves so delicate, and surprisingly, she smelled like honeysuckle. Not lavender as he had imagined. Suddenly, a flash of heat washed over him, cutting him off his rational thoughts. When was the last time he’d been this close to a woman? Shrugging off his thoughts, he tried to remember that he was not supposed to be attracted to Kyra.

“Come inside, Kabir baba and sit. I will bring chai for you both, along with something to eat. By the way, the city corporation sent a message that they won’t be able to meet you till this storm subsides.”

“What? They are not coming?” He stopped in his tracks. “We didn’t get any message from them.”

“That is because the network and connectivity in this area are probably down due to the blizzard,” Shyamlal shouted from the kitchen.

Kabir walked inside the cosy cabin with a fireplace and a few decorations. It was well-maintained and had decent furniture and furnishings. The immaculately clean cabin gave off homey vibes. He swiped his phone screen to check the network and found that Shyamlal was indeed right. His phone had no network. Even the Wi-Fi connection was fucked up.

“Fuck.” After taking off his glasses and leaning back in the chair, Kabir rubbed his palm over his face in frustration. “Fucking hell.”

Kyra sat in front of the fire to warm herself. She noticed Kabir cursing and getting agitated. Even with his worried expression, he was still the most attractive man she had ever seen. God. She trembled a little, even with the woollen wrap over her shoulders, as she imagined her body next to him again.

“So, what are we supposed to do now?” Kyra murmured while rubbing her sides.

They had been in the cabin for almost thirty minutes, and she was still cold. Kabir’s proximity and the cold robbed her of sane composure. She’d gotten so anxious that it had taken her three attempts to open the door after he prevented her fall.

By the time she succeeded, Kabir was already inside the cabin, sitting opposite her. He was not at all affected by the entire falling incident. He also patronised her as though she was dying to be in his arms, which might have been the case had she still been eighteen. But now that she was an adult, she knew that Kabir was a sexy butSanskarijerk who didn’t give a damn about how she felt.
