Princess,

I have to go to my parent’s house this morning to handle an urgent business matter. I’ll be back as soon as possible. You are welcome to enjoy my house however you like.

P.S: Your clothes are in my walk-in closet, the dresser on the left.

—Kabir.

She read the note multiple times before kissing it and holding it to her heart. Instead of freaking out, she considered how easily the fussy and controlling Kabir had given her total control over his house during the past few weeks. She loved being with him and felt incredibly blessed to have him in her life. Though she had always known she had a thing for him, she was now certain that she hadn’t just crossed the line by having sex with him; she had also gone off the deep end by falling in love with him. The love that was eternal and once in a lifetime. The kind of love where she’d do anything for him.

She got up and used his bathroom to finish her morning routine. She showered, changed into a ruby knee-length, off-shoulder dress, brushed her damp hair, and tinted her cheeks and lips before walking into the classic white kitchen. It was roomy and brimming with modern gadgets and steel appliances. The entire apartment was lavish. Even the bathrooms were luxurious, complete with claw-foot bathtubs and unique fixtures. She rushed to the kitchen counter to make a cup of Indian-style tea when the doorbell rang.

She stopped dead in her tracks.

Her gut feeling told her not to answer the door as Kabir had left without giving her any instructions about visitors. But what if it was something really important?

The doorbell rang again, and she literally sprinted from the kitchen to the entrance, pulling the door open. Raina stood on the other side, her long shiny hair in waves with flawlessly applied makeup. She had a frown on her face. She was dressed in an oversized, flowing dress, which was very unlike what she usually wore. Her smile vanished as soon as she saw Kyra.

“Kyra Kapoor.” There was no question in her voice, just accusation.

Kyra was shocked for a moment. Kabir had said only his brothers knew about this place. Then how did Raina…? But Raina had been Kabir’s girlfriend for three years, and she should have foreseen this. This fact bothered her, and she became jealous to the point of going hulk on Raina’s ass. Leaning against the doorframe, she glanced at Raina lazily.

“Raina. How can I help you?”

“Surprised to see me?” Raina clutched her Chanel bag tightly, baring her pearly whites like a vampire.

“Not in the least,” Kyra answered nonchalantly.

“So, what are you doing here?” Raina asked her suspiciously.

“That should be my question to you.” Kyra pouted. “But anyway, now that you’ve asked, Kabir and I were going through some financial reports.” The lie tumbled out from Kyra’s lips so naturally that if lying was a profession, she could make a living out of it. She didn’t want to let Raina assume anything.

Raina raised a sceptical brow. “You think I would fall for your bullshit?”

“I have no time to waste thinking about what you’d think or not. But Raina, I would like to get on with my day. So please just tell me how I can help you today.”

“I knew I’d find you here. I wanted to speak to you alone.” Raina pressed her lips tightly.

“Kabir is taking a shower. I’m not alone.” Something seemed odd, so Kyra lied once more.

“And I’m not a fool. I’m aware that Kabir left the house early this morning.” Raina rolled her eyes.

“Are you spying on him?” Kyra exploded.

“Gosh. No. I know the security person of the building. I contacted him to ask about Kabir, and he informed me.” Raina smirked.

Kyra responded, “Well, I guess the security person needs to be sued for leaking confidential details to a stranger.”

“Not to a stranger. He knows I have been Kabir’s girlfriend for a long time.” Raina flashed her a triumphant smile.

“Why are you here?”

“To tell you something important.” She pushed open the door to enter without waiting for Kyra.

Raina barging inside in such a manner caught Kyra off guard, and she scowled. But Raina did not pose a threat—at least not physical. “What do you want to talk about?”

“Before I start, I want you to promise that you’ll keep this chat private. Woman to woman.” Raina’s voice was stiff.

“Sure.” Kyra agreed, oblivious to the fact that she would soon face a nuclear explosion of information that would change her whole life. Just then, her phone rang. She checked the caller ID. It was Mira. She frowned as to why her sister was calling her now and put it on silent.
