“If the baby is his. You will have to prove it to him. He’s not an idiot, Raina. If you think he’ll blindly agree with everything you say, then you don’t know him.”
“Whatever. We have a history that goes beyond your stupid teenage crush on him. Do you want to be the girl on the sidelines while your boyfriend plays home with his ex and the baby? Look, Kyra, you’re young. You’ll find someone close to your age. Why are you so hung up on somebody a decade older than you?”
Confounded, Kyra shook her head. “Spew whatever venom you want. I won’t leave Kabir just because you are insecure.”
Giving her an irritated look, Raina stated coldly, “You’re truly naive. His parents won’t accept your relationship easily if that’s what you think. You are not the daughter of that house. You’re Mira’s sister. You’re somewhere in between. Why would you want to be in these half-baked relationships? It’s not like you lack your own family?”
“Because these relations are family to me!” Kyra shouted.
“I don’t care. Also, I don’t want Kabir to ever reach out to you in his vulnerable times. I’m sure you don’t want to be regarded as a home wrecker. You’ll leave him. You don’t want to know what I can do if you don’t do as I say. You get my drift, don’t you?” Raina threatened while pretending innocence.
“What if I don’t?” Kyra smiled, but inside, she was planning Raina’s bloody murder.
“If you don’t... Then Kabir’s life and career will be ruined. I will convict him for treachery and prove he is a CFO with a questionable reputation, forcing his company to disown him.” Raina hissed.
“Well, good fucking luck with doing that. I’m sure his company knows him. They won’t believe your baseless stories.”
“Oh, but they will accept my evidence.” Raina threw a file on the coffee table.
Shocked, Kyra lifted the file in her shaky hands to see the contract papers signed by Kabir the previous year, but something was off. She frowned as she read the documents, and her temper shot to a thousand in mere five seconds. It stated Kabir was involved in Oberoi Orbit’s largest embezzlement. Although these documents were fraudulent, some of the information seemed to be quite sensitive. How did Raina get these? Was she was getting help from someone in the office?
Having read enough, Kyra felt outraged and accused, “This is bull shit. You’ve cooked it all up!”
“Maybe. But no one will believe what you say. Everyone will believe that Kabir is a strait-laced businessman who was always a wolf in a sheep’s skin. They will believe what they see… and that is this contract. It clearly states everything was framed and executed by your so-called boyfriend, with no coercion on anyone’s part.”
“Do what you want. I’m calling Kabir right now and saving you the effort of throwing a shit show.”
“Sure. Call him,” Raina said triumphantly as she was expecting this. She raised her phone, swinging it in the air. “The moment your call connects with Kabir, I will press this button on the social media platform to upload a controversial sex tape of your sister, Nitya.”
“What nonsense! How dare you?” Kyra growled, trying to snatch her phone.
“Nuh-uh. Don’t be stupid, Kyra,” Raina tsked. “I came well prepared. You thought you’ll have my boyfriend all to yourself, and I will just sit and let you have him. Of course not. He’s mine. Luckily, I know how to get my things back, so I didn’t have to struggle to retrieve this video of your idiotic sister,” she said, playing the video.
Kyra opened her mouth to give her verbal bashing when she saw a video playing of Nitya and a man engaged in a passionate encounter in highly compromising positions. She was shocked and angry as she watched the video, wondering how the hell Raina had gotten it.
“You’re so cruel. You know all of this will affect not only Kabir but also his family and his business. How can you do it to someone you claim to love?”
“I claim to love him. I don’t claim to be a saint. And it won’t come to it, darling, because you will certainly break up with him.” Raina smiled viciously.
“What will you get by leaking my sister’s video? It will ruin my sister’s reputation. What has she ever done to you? This isn’t fair. Leave my sister out of this.” Kyra was on the verge of crying.
“Who cares? As long as you understand the consequences of your actions, I will do whatever I can to get my man back.” Rain retorted smugly.
Fuck.
Kyra couldn’t believe this. She was outraged and alarmed at how criminal-minded Raina was. Even though the contract documents seemed to contain some sensitive information, everything seemed fabricated, and nothing fit the way Kabir carried out his business. How the heck had Raina gotten those pictures and videos? With whose help did she fabricate those documents?
She remembered how she herself was going to get roped into the sex tape shit when that asshole boyfriend from college had tricked her. She felt sick to the stomach that her sister unknowingly fell prey to the same shit and had her privacy invaded so callously.
Kyra didn’t want to break up with Kabir. She’d just gotten him after so many years. But she’d die a thousand times before she let Raina fuck with the lives of people she loved. What if she actually carried out her threats?
God. No. She didn’t have a chance at winning this game. Not when the opponent was a bitch like Raina. Because even with all the twisted things she spewed, Kyra sadly felt that the she-devil had a biting logic to her threat. Kabir would always choose his responsibility to his baby over a month-old relationship. He was a righteous person with strong family values who would always choose his family. Nothing could make Kyra compete for love with an innocent unborn baby.
Both women locked eyes in a mental stand-off. One full of fire and protectiveness, the other full of revenge and hate.
“I hope you make the right choice, or you know what’ll happen. Good luck with your impending breakup, doll.” Raina got up and put her stuff in her bag. She got up and slammed the door behind her, flashing Kyra a toxic smile.
Kyra released the breath she was holding. It really felt like she had gotten up on the wrong side of the bed today. She had to play this cruel game… a game she had to knowingly lose. So many thoughts flashed through Kyra’s mind at once. She didn’t know how things would turn out and how Kabir would feel about whatever she was going to do to break up with him.
