“There is always a choice. And when it comes to choosing your life partner, choose the one who holds your heart and not just your hands, darling. If this person held both, your hand and your heart, then you should fight to keep him.” Vrinda countered.
“It’s too late for that.” Kyra wanted to be alone so she could wallow in her misery.
“Fine.” Vrinda nudged her teasingly. “At least tell me who this guy was.”
“I’m not crazy to tell you who he is,” Kyra nudged her back.
“C’mon, I’m your mother, Boo.”
“And I’m your daughter, Boo. Why should I tell you? So, you and those ‘lady gangsters’ you call my sisters can threaten that poor chap and make his life hell for no fault of his. No, thank you.” Kyra scoffed.
“You’re leaving the country because of a breakup. Still, you think the boy is not at fault?” Mom raised her brow.
‘No, Mom. I’m leaving for my sake. I have to find myself first.” Kyra was being practical for once.
“That sounds logical... but you can’t just waltz out of our lives!” Vrinda unexpectedly got emotional.
“Mom, I’ll be back. Once all the hoopla is over and done, I’ll visit to spend some time with all of you. I promise... but right now, I have to go.” Kyra implored, wiping her eyes.
“I will always support you, Kyra. You’re my baby girl. I love you. Always remember that.” Vrinda wiped her tears, hugging her tightly.
“I know, Mom. I love you too.” Kyra blotted her nose on her Mom’s shoulder.
“Did you just wipe your snoot on my tunic?” Vrinda pulled back as she laughed.
“No, Mom.” Kyra smiled.
“Yes, you did.” Vrinda laughed and got up as she headed to the kitchen.
“Where are you going?” Kyra wiped her face.
“To make you some tea. You’ll feel calm and relaxed.”
“Okay. Thanks, Mom.”
“You are welcome, sweetheart.”
Vrinda gave Kyra tea, made sure she was okay and promised to visit the following day before leaving her apartment. She considered calling Digvijay and telling him about the situation with Kyra but decided against it because she knew her husband would react first and act later.
Just as she got inside her car, she told the driver to take her home. She sat for a few seconds looking out the window before banging her head on it in frustration. Clearly, Kyra was unhappy and going through some emotional turmoil.Having her daughter’s heart broken and not knowing the reason was a mother’s nightmare. Vrinda wanted to help Kyra. When she saw her baby crying hard, she felt utterly helpless.
Vrinda thought hard. Everything indicated this was planned well beforehand and was implemented like a well-crafted jigsaw puzzle. There were just two days between Kyra’s breakupand her departure for the US. All of that seemed pre-planned. But why?
Something was amiss. The Kyra she had known all her life would never leave her family and go to another city. Kyra was mature beyond her age, and Vrinda was certain no one would break up with her so easily. Kyra was a gem, and any guy would be lucky to have her in his life. She wanted to ensure Kyra was moving country for the right reasons.
She checked the time. It was after midnight. But helping Kyra was more important. So, Vrinda Kapoor did the one thing her daughter had told her not to do. She called Mira.
????
“Hey, Mom.” Mira picked up the call after a few rings. “All okay? It’s after almost...one in the night.”
“Hey, Mimi, I’m sorry to disturb you, sweetie. But I need your help,” Vrinda’s voice trembled.
“What happened? Where are you? Is Dad okay?” Mira asked in concern. She heard a shuffling sound as Adil gestured to her something. “It’s Mom, Adi…”
“Mira, calm down, sweetie. Everything is fine. I’m in the car and am going home.”
“What are you doing out so late at night?”
