It was Kabir’s voice that did it. Raina swayed a little, looking shocked. As Kabir approached her, she noticed the same girl who was lurking near the table with him.
“You remember Pooja? She is a nurse at Dr. Singh’s clinic.”Kabir asked Raina.
“I don’t know her.” Raina fibbed.
“Then how come we have the CCTVfootage of your meeting with her?” Kabir cocked his head. “Let’s refresh your memory first. Pooja, please tell us exactly when and why Raina visited Dr. Singh.” Kabir questioned the anxious girl.
“Sir, she visited the clinic nine days ago because she wanted a false pregnancy report from Dr. Singh.”
“You bitch.” Kabir held Raina as she went after the girl.
“Did he give her the reports?” Kabir ignoredRaina wriggling in his grip.
“Yes, sir. In fact, I was the one who gave her the false reports on Dr. Singh’s orders.”
“Thank you. That’s all we wanted to know, Pooja. You can go now,” Kabir replied as the girl scurried out of the room in a hurry.
“Why did you need false reports, Raina?” Kabir questioned.
“Come on, Kabir. Would you honestly believe that lowlynurse’s words over mine?” Raina tried to play innocent.
“All right, if that’s what you think, let’s hear what you have to say instead.” At Kabir’s nod, the room was filled with the audio recording as Kabir gave her an evil grin.
Raina’s face drained of its colour. “Someone has modulated my voice to defame me. That is not me with Kyra.”
“I didn’t even say anything about Kyra,” Kabir said calmly.
“This is fucking bullshit. I will sue you.” Raina was hysterical.
“Go ahead. Do it. Do you really think anyone will trust you after listening to this audio? You’re a liar, Raina. And you will lie more to save your ass. You lied to Kyra about your pregnancy. You tried to defame Nitya and me and blackmailed her. You are a threat to my family. I’m filing a lawsuit against you for defamation, blackmail, threatening, and slander.”
“What. No!” Raina sputtered.
“I never thought you’d sink so low. After all this time, I assumed we were friends. Everything was over between us, then what was your problem?” Kabir exploded with rage.
“I hate Kyra. That was the problem,” Raina yelled. “She always thought she was too good. I knew she had a crush on you. I wasn’t stupid, Kabir. I could see how desperate she was for your attention. Even your family loved her while I always struggled for their approval.”
“But it was over between us. You were the one who ended things with me.” Kabir growled.
“Because I wanted you to come back to me on your own. I realised I had lost you when that bitch lured you, and you fell into her trap instead. I gave you three years of my life, Kabir. Do you even understand how I felt losing to a girl who had you for only two months?” Raina cried in frustration, holding Kabir’s hand.
“You’re crazy,” Kabir hissed as he wrenched himself from her hold. “I’ve never felt anything for you. I’m done with you. Get this in that thick brain of yours. You won’t achieve anything with this aggressive behaviour. Call security, Vaayu. Hand this crazy woman to the police and get her out of here.”
“Kabir, I only did this to win you back,” Raina screamed. She tried to hug Kabir, but Ritik and Adil restrained her.
“You need a psychiatrist.” Kabir pushed her away, abhorring her touch. “I don’t ever want to see you again. And if you ever try to get in touch with Mira, Kyra or anyone else in my family, I will make your life hell. I’ll personally come after you and destroy you in a way that you’ll regret ever having met me.”
“You don’t have to worry about that, Kabir.” A firm voice pierced through Kabir’s uncontrollable rage, and he turned around in its direction.
Rudra Shekhawat stood there with his imposing presence coupled with a stern expression on his face. The building security was waiting at the door while Rudra’s men flanked the room on either side. Kabir observed that the area had been cleared, and no guests were present. A disastrous media frenzy had been thus luckily averted.
The police entered with some lady officials as they took Raina in custody. “Raina Dutta, you are under arrest for multiple charges pressed by Mr. Kabir Oberoi.”
“No, don’t touch me,”Raina yelled as the police dragged her outside. “Kabir. Please. Don’t do this...” As the elevator doors closed, her voice faded, and the room fell silent.
“Well, that went well,” Deven said as he emerged from his hiding spot with a camera in hand. “I’ve recorded everything. We have solid evidence to back up the charges.”
“That’s great. I was about to get a headache with all her screaming.” Mira sighed as she sat down near the chair.
