“Yay! Okay!”

I waited until she moved forward and whispered, “Will you tell your uncle something for me?”

She nodded.

I whispered out the message I wanted her to share and leaned back into the front seat, turning toward Rhett.

“What was that all about?” he asked.

“Daisy has something she needs to tell you.” I looked at Daisy and said, “Girl, you’re up.”

“Uncle ’Ett, Lainey says she wants to move to Iceland with you.”

The biggest grin was on Rhett’s lips. “Is that so?”

“Mmhmm. She just told me. Is that another surprise, Uncle ’Ett?”

“It is,” he said. “A giant one.” He pulled my hand up to his mouth and kissed it. “I love you.”

“I love you too,” Daisy and I said at the same time.

Which made me laugh, and it made Rhett smile even harder—an expression I hadn’t known was possible for that man.

“Iceland …” He shook his head as though he couldn’t believe I’d finally made the decision.

“I wanna go to Iceland,” Daisy said. “Where’s Iceland?”

“It’s far, baby. But don’t worry, you’re coming too,” he said. “When the hotel is finished, your dad is going to bring you, and we’re going to have a massive party. Doesn’t that sound like fun?”

“I can’t wait, Uncle ’Ett.”

Rhett was careful when he pointed out the windshield, making sure Daisy didn’t see him, but I did, and as the sign came into view, I knew exactly why he wanted me to see it.

“Our first date,” he said softly.

God, this man.

Sentimental in a way I’d certainly never expected.

“It’s like you don’t even have to tell him. And then he gives it to you, and it’s everything you’ve ever wanted,” I said quietly, repeating the words I’d said to Daisy earlier because they were already coming into play again.

“I knew you’d love it for that reason,” he said. “The little one, she’ll love it for an entirely different reason.” He kissed along the back of my knuckles. “I think you should deliver the surprise.”

“I would love to.” I turned toward Daisy. “Before you go to Iceland, there’s another land I think you should visit first.”

Her eyes widened. “Where?”

I reached for her hand and squeezed her small, pink-painted fingers. “How about Disneyland?”

Her mouth dropped open. “We’re going to Disneyland?”

“Yes, ma’am, and guess who’s going to ride all the rides with you,” Rhett said.

“Lainey TAYLOR!” Daisy screamed.
