“That’s not what I’m seeing either,” Emily agreed.
Bettie nodded toward Emily. “Is Maya your friend?”
“Best friend,” Emily replied.
“Her smile has something to do with a man, doesn’t it?” Bettie asked Em.
“Oh, Bettie, our girl is in love,” Emily replied.
“I’m not.” I shook my head.
“You are,” they both said in unison.
Chapter Five
Jordan
I almost didn’t answer my cell when Gavin’s name appeared on the screen, my phone vibrating in my hand. Not because I was mid-swallow, my vitamins going down my throat, and I really couldn’t speak yet, but because I knew he wanted something.
And the only thing I was in the mood for this morning was my run.
That was a lie.
Maya was also on that very short list.
“What are you doing right this second?” my brother asked after I answered.
These early-morning calls from him were wearing me thin. He knew I lived by a schedule. He knew if I was awake at this hour that I wasn’t sitting in front of the television, picking my goddamn nose.
“I’m about to go for a run. The same thing I do every morning at this time.”
A run I’d been thinking about since Maya left me under the bridge yesterday with my dick still hard from her perfect pussy and my brain still blown from how she’d agreed to let me fuck her in public.
Before she told me why I was the only lucky man whose cum she’d swallowed, she’d taken off. So today I was hoping to get that answer and another taste of her.
A deeper taste.
A fucking longer taste.
“Don’t go,” he said. “I need you to get dressed and meet your driver downstairs. He’ll be there in ten minutes. He’s going to take you to the airport, where I’ll be waiting for you.”
I ground my teeth and pushed away from the kitchen counter to head for the elevator. “No.”
“But I haven’t even told you why we’re flying out.”
“My answer is still no.”
“Jordan, we’re meeting with Andrew Clover in three hours to discuss the deal.Nois not an option. I need you at that meeting.”
Again with that goddamn man and his neediness.
Why the hell wouldn’t he just sign off on the offer so he wouldn’t have to put up with us anymore?
“Let me guess”—I paused when I reached the end of my living room—“he’s on another island getaway with his girlfriend?”
“He’s in Chicago. Meeting with another potential buyer.”
My head rocked back, and I shouted at the ceiling, “You’ve got to be fucking kidding me.”
