I’ve never had a mate, nothing this intense in my life. It’s like Blair is a part of me, and I want to kill anyone who so much as breathes near her.

“Billy,” Blair chokes out as her brother pulls her into his arms and towards the tow truck. “Billy Marshall.”

Chapter Five

CALIX

Are we being fucking serious?

My mate is ahuman?

Not only a human…buther?! This has to be wrong…but the growl from my wolf tells me otherwise. It’s not wrong. Blair is my mate.Ourmate.

Fuck!

My Beta, Cox, watches me from across the thick oak table between us, his eyes narrowing. He is the closest thing I have to a brother, not that he’ll ever replacemybrother… Fuck, even the thought of Rebel makes me want to cry and scream.

I miss him so much.

My wolf whines, and I know he misses him too.

But Cox? He lost his best friend that night, too. And he knows me almost as well as Rebel did. Which is why he’s staring at me intently right now.

“So what happened?” Cox asks, rubbing his chin with his hand. “Who is she?”

Of course he’s asking about the human girl they attacked because I guess he already knows what he wants to about Billy-fucking-Marshall.

I’ll rip his fucking head off when I find him, the fucking spineless bastard.

I stare at Cox and allow a deep sigh to leave my chest. “Her name is Blair Granger.”

A shiver runs through me at the sheer mention of her name, and I pinch my nose, taking a moment to gather myself. I hate the effect she has on me.

“So…why did you take onthreewolves for her?” Cox asks, raising his eyebrows. I’ve taken on over three wolves before, but it wasn’t for a girl.

I’m pretty sure he already knows why I did it. He just wants me tosayit. Then again, he knows I won’t let women get hurt on my watch. My mother is still missing, and Goddess only knows what they’re doing to her. Whoevertheyare. I still can’t believe we know nothing about her, even two years on.

No one does. Not even the Seers.

Pain slices through my chest, and I snarl, making Cox lift a hand in defense.

“Calm, brother. I was just asking.”

I level my gaze and jut my chin before responding. “She was in trouble. Those bastards were going to rape her. Then I have no doubt they were going to kill her.”

My hands tremble, and I grit my teeth, resisting the shift my wolf is trying to press upon me. He wants blood at the mention of Blair suffering, and I don’t fucking blame him.

“And you said they weren’t rogues?”

I shake my head. “No. She knew one of their names, for fuck’s sake.”

Cox frowns, and I already know what he’s thinking.

Whywould three boys known to the town do this to one of their own?And how are they wolves?

But this is what I don’t understand. Weownthis town; we know it inside and out. We run it, for fuck’s sake.So how are theseboysnow wolves without being part of our pack?

Cox grunts, and I know he’s thinking the same. “It doesn’t make sense.”
