My wolf has been smug as fuck about this and how much he managed to calm her when she was scared. It took everything for him not to take over last night when Billy attempted to come into the house, but he would have ripped Billy apart, not caring if Blair saw it.

I did my best to keep in touch with the others through mind-link while keeping Blair calm, which was difficult when shebreathed in my scent for comfort. Her lips against my throat did things to me they shouldn’t ever do—I need to get her home as soon as possible. I can’t sleep without her, and I like my sleep.

I had none last night but can’t say the same for Leon.

“I know.”

“Now is your chance,” Cox points out, nodding behind me before striding into the trees behind us.

I sigh and turn to see Blair with a duffel bag in her hands, her eyes darting around like she’s about to be attacked. My chest aches at her wariness, and I cross over to her, taking her bag from her before pointing at the truck Cox had left for me.

“Shall we?”

Blair stares back at her aunt’s house and bites her lip, making me growl.

“Did you leave a note, Blair?” I ask, ignoring the way she makes me hard with one movement. It’s fucking appalling—an Alpha reduced to a walking dick because of a human.

“I did, but?—”

“Then get in the truck,” I command, stalking to the driver’s side while trying to adjust my dick in my pants. I can’t drive like this, so something has to give.

Blair doesn’t move, and I have a vision of tossing her over my shoulder and throwing her in the damn truck when she finally shifts in my direction, calming the blaze in my body.

She’s defiant, as I knew my mate would be. The Goddess above clearly hates me.

But then, Blair is stunningly beautiful, so the Goddess may be giving me a break.

Maybe.

Jasmine and vanilla fill the cabin of the truck, and my dick stiffens again.

“Fucking hell,” I mutter as Blair looks at me questioningly before speaking.

“Where did your friend go?” Blair frowns, staring into the woods.

Well, what better way to tell her that Cox moves faster in his wolf form than I do in the truck? A smile forms on my lips, and I sigh, starting the truck and flicking the headlights on. It’s only five in the morning, and the sun hasn’t yet risen.

“I know you’re going to think I’m crazy,” I start, and Blair laughs.

“I already do.”

I press my lips together and scowl.

This isn’t going well.

I focus on driving for a while, already feeling better for hitting the open road.

“Sorry,” Blair adds, twisting in her seat. “Carry on.”

“Do you believe in werewolves, Blair?”

Blair stills, and I can’t even look at her. I know what it sounds like, but we’re real whether she likes it or not. Her heart rate picks up, and I can smell her nervous sweat as it slips down her spine. Can almost feel her fingers itching to open the truck door as it speeds down the dirt track.

“What?” Blair whispers, gawping at me.

“Do you?” I ask again, thinking back to her vampire book and feeling stupid. She’s never going to take me seriously.

“No, of course not,” Blair scoffs. “Why?”
