With one last glance in Blair’s direction, I take off into the woods, shifting into my wolf form to cover more ground.
Thoughts of my father being hurt ricochet through my brain as I curse myself for being away.
What happened?I ask via mind-link, relieved to see the packhouse in the distance.
Someone attacked us.Rebel replies.
We chased them away, but…
Rebel is my younger brother and best friend.
I’m nearly there.I snarl back, doubling my speed.Tell him to hold on.
Rebel howls, and I don’t need the mind-link to hear it.
My soul drops into my stomach as I sense my father’s passing, and I stop in my tracks, screaming my grief along with my brother.
Calix…Rebel sobs, and I move forward, adrenaline pushing me onwards.
I’m here!I rasp as I stalk into the pack ground, taking in the disarray and destruction.
Wolves lie in pools of blood, with women and children crying beside them, howling out the names of their lost ones. My wolf howls again, and my heart breaks as I head to the packhouse, where I see Rebel on the ground, injured.Suddenly I can’t breathe, and my ears ring, blocking out the sound of screams from all around me.
“Rebel!” I roar after shifting into my human form.
“Who did this?” I demand, leaning over and trying to stem the blood flow. Deep claw marks decorate his stomach with crimson, and I vow that whoever attacked my family will die.
I’ll hunt them down, and I’ll kill them all.
One by one.
“Rogues…” Rebel gasps as thick dark liquid leaves his mouth.
“Rebel,” I growl, gripping his face. “Fight, do you hear me? Don’t you dare die.”
Rebel’s gaze locks with mine, and I swallow back tears and emotion, refusing to accept my little brother is dying.
There’s no way—everyone was okay earlier…
Someone falls to their knees beside me, and I see Rebel’s best friend, Cox, shaking his head, his nose bloody.
“Rebel, man, come on…”
But it’s too late.
Rebel is slipping away.
“I love you,” I say, stroking his face. “I’ll kill them all, I swear.”
Rebel’s eyes hold mine until the life fades from them, and Cox loses his shit beside me.
I rise to my feet and turn to see everyone looking at me for help now that their Alpha is dead.
My father and my brother were both taken from me in one night.
“My mother?” I ask no one in particular.
“They took her,” a girl to my right answers, her dress ripped and body bruised and bloody.
