“Husband.”

“That’s what I said.”

She laughs and collapses onto her side at mine and stares up at me while I struggle to stare down at her. Whenever I try, shooting pain fires down my neck.

“Relax,house-band,” she says, saying the word in the same tone I use.

“I suppose I could use a lesson in Human.”

“My brother, Ibra, has signed on to teach some of the Voraxians that have asked. A lot of the humans think the life drives and the translator mites are strange, so Voraxians are meeting them in the middle. I think Tur’Roth even wanted to take classes from Ibra.”

Bloodthirsty. I heave out a breath and it tastes like fire as I spit, “Do not mention that male again.”

She chuckles beside me.Bloodthirsty. “Whatever happened to him? You didn’t…harm him, did you?”

“Nox. I just told him what I should have told you long ago. That you are my Xiveri mate. He respected this.” And ran off like a coward. Why I don’t tell her that is beyond me, but I don’t.

“Xhivey,” she says, fingers tracing a pattern over my arm all the way down to my fingers. She laces her five fingers through my six. “I’m glad he knows. In truth, I did not care for him. I tried, but I was often distracted by a male with scarred red skin and hair as white as the sky. A male who moves so quickly shadows would be jealous and who fights like a battle god.

“A male who draws terrible and wonderful things out of me. Who makes me question everything. Right and wrong. Good and evil. Who makes me feel in ways I’ve never felt. I feel twice the woman I was and it’s because of you. Because fighting you makes me feel strong. Because having you at my back makes me feel invincible.” She kisses my shoulder. “You fought so beautifully for me on Evernor.”

“And I’d do it all over.” Her words fill me like a well overrun. I am so deeply, profoundly grateful.

And then she flicks my rib cage, making me wince. “Nox. Never again. Your way is the absolute worst.”

I laugh and it just about kills me. Choking through the pain, I say, “I saw you out there. You looked like you were having a great time, fighting that Oosa with your rug.”

“It was working,” she huffs.

I grin. “Hexa. It was. But next time, you might not be so lucky so please, when I hand you two objects, please choose the pointy one.”

“We’ll see.”

I growl, “I’m yourhuzzabendnow. You have to do what I say.”

She flicks me again and picks herself up so I can see her glaring down at my face. “You are sorely in need of education about the role of a husband.”

“Maybe a punishment is in order.”

Her expression catches. She bites her lip. “I’m not sure I like your punishments.”

“Nox? Maybeyouare in need of education about the role of ahuzzabend. Come here. Sit on my face.”

“Verax,”she balks.

“Lift your shift and sit on my mouth. I want to taste you. An orgasm might kill me, right now, but I can give you one. It’ll be my punishment.”

“I…”

“Move, Svera,” I order and she swallows hard, staring at me agog before finally, she starts to crawl.

She maneuvers careful around me in a way I wish she didn’t have to be, but I’m still not myself. There are still pieces in there put together wrong, or broken entirely.Xok if I care.

“Sit on my mouth. There,” I coo as she spreads her knees around my head and lowers herself hesitantly. She lifts her shift up around her waist and holds it so I can see everything up to her ribs.

“Like this?” She asks shakily.

“Just like this. Lower.”
