Someone like Riko could want someone like me?

“Bye, Dad,” Riko blurts out before tossing his phone onto the table with a clatter. Then, he calls out to me, “Sorry you had to overhear that.”

I take my cue to enter the room, hoping he doesn’t notice my reddened cheeks. He’s scowling and rubbing at his thigh.

“Put your leg up on the table,” I instruct as I plop down on the sofa next to him. “Let’s ice it.”

“Where the hell did you get this thing?” he asks as he obeys my command. “I was just in the freezer getting meat. I didn’t see anything like it in there.”

I smirk at him. “I have my ways.”

He arches a dark eyebrow at me. “Are you in the mafia, Dere-Dere?”

“If I was, I wouldn’t tell you.”

His laughter has a smile tugging at one corner of my lips. When he’s not being a terror, I like being in his presence. The laughter dies when I shove his shorts up his thigh. Another flare of heat courses through me, but I ignore it as I lay the wrap over the top of his thigh. He grunts as I gently lift his thigh to tuck each end of the wrap beneath his leg.

“Well, this is awkward,” Riko mutters as he moves his hand to cover his crotch.

I steal a quick glance at it. His cock has thickened in his shorts and his hand splays over it to hide his arousal. This makes my own cock jolt with excitement.

Damn.

What is going on with me?

“I have that effect on people,” I tell him as I scoot away from him and snag the television remote. “The dating app I’m on is insane. They all want to fuck me. Not a ‘hi, hello, how are you’ before they launch into wanting to suck my dick.”

Talk about anything else, Derek. For fuck’s sake.

“Some people are suckers for a man in a uniform,” he says, chuckling. “It’s me. I’m people.”

As much as I want to continue this flirting, it’s dangerous. I’m unsure of how I feel about all this. It’s a bad idea to start exploring new areas about myself with my roomie. If I change my mind, I have to live with this guy.

“So,” I say as I settle on a new horror movie and hit play. “You want to tell me what you and your dad were arguing about?”

He sighs heavily. “I’d rather just flirt with you.”

So we were definitely flirting. Good to know.

“I think talking about your dad is more important and you know it. It’s clearly bothering you.” I give him a pointed stare. “Spill, man.”

His head falls back onto the cushion and he stares up at the ceiling. “It’s the same thing over and over again with him. Dropping out of school has made him insane. I can’t even tell him about my new, cool roommate or my fun day with the kids because he launches right into my failures.”

“Does he not approve of what you want to do instead of college?”

“He never lets me get a word in,” Riko grumbles. “Not that he would care anyway.”

“I care.”

The movie has started to play, but the volume is low, and neither of us are interested in it. Getting to know Riko feels important, especially now when he appears to be hurting, both physically and emotionally.

“You’re old. You won’t get it.”

I scoff at his words. “I’m not old. I’m not even forty yet.”

“You’re at least double my age. That makes you old.”

“And yet you were flirting with this ‘old man,’” I deadpan.
