“How is my little pet now?” He runs his hands along my sides. “I’ll break you, and I’ll enjoy watching you shatter,” the look in his eyes scares me down to my bones.

He truly is pure evil.

CHAPTERSIX

JOKER

Reck has taken the hunt for Carrie seriously. He’s tried contacting Child Protective Services to see if they would be willing to give him any information on where she was fostered. Fuckers were not helpful and couldn’t care less that a man misses his daughter.

Wire is doing all he can. He’d contacted this new hacker whizz guy called Webbie, what a dumbass name. Wire had explained the situation, hoping this guy has a heart and will agree to help us.

I make my way to Wire’s room to check on how he’s doing. Knocking on the door, he shouts to come in.

“Brother, it could’ve been anyone at the door.” He points to a screen off to the side of the full wall of computer screens he’s staring at. I can see a camera pointed at the door. Clever fucker! Taking a closer look at the screens, I can see a few are different views from around the clubhouse and surrounding area, like the access road and a few of the woods around us. A few of the screens are feeds from around town—the road in and road out, Main Street, and then club businesses. Each screen is labeled with what it’s showing. Brother is smart and I’m glad he’s head of our security. Seems he thinks of everything, including the screens that show our officers’ houses, mainly the outside, as we still respect their privacy.

I roll my eyes. “Any news?”

He keeps typing at his keyboard, fingers flying quickly over the keys.

“Webbie agreed to help in return for a marker.”

Rubbing my hands over my face, I let out a breath.

“Need to take that to church, brother.”

“Already called Prez, and he’s calling church shortly.”

Clearly, Wire is a few steps ahead of me.

“Great. Hopefully, brothers will agree to this Webbie’s marker.”

He grunts in agreement, not taking his eyes off the screens.

“Can’t see it being a problem. It’s for Carrie.”

Hoping he’s right, I leave him to whatever he’s working on. Knocking on Prez’s door, he tells me to enter. Looking up from his desk, he says, “Wondered how long it would take.”

Sitting down on the sofa, I rest my head in my hands. “This is all getting to me. I just want my girl back.”

Prez gives me a moment before he speaks. “I know, son, I would feel the same as you if anything happened to Pip. The woman is my life. But trust in your brothers and trust in your club to do everything they can to get your girl back. Remember, she’s not only your girl, but Reck’s daughter and our Princess. We look after our own. We’re family.”

I know my Prez is right. Brothers would die for each other and their families.

“Thanks, Prez, I needed to hear that,” he gives me a sympathetic look.

“Just as long as you know it. Sometimes we still need to hear it confirmed.”

Taking a deep breath, I get up.

“Church in an hour,” are Prez’s last words as I leave his office. A short ride is just what I need.

Pulling back into the clubhouse an hour later, Johnny tells me nearly everyone is in church already. I pick up the pace and slip into church. Wire comes in not long after, and Prez bangs the gavel.

“Brothers, this is not a normal church. We’re here to discuss our efforts to find Carrie.”

A few murmurs go around, and Reck bangs his fist on the table.

“About fucking time,” he bellows.
