“Yes, I’m serious. That boy out there means everything to me. I’m his mom. It’s my job to protect him and keep him safe. I haven’t been able to do that for the first ten years of his life, but I’m sure as hell going to do it from now on,” I declare.
Kate and Tank are quiet for a moment.
“I’m in. About time we girls learned to kick ass,” adds Kate excitedly.
“Okay, I’ll train you both, but the second you’re not taking it seriously, I’m done.”
We both nod our agreement.
“Right, I need to go shopping as I have no workout-appropriate clothes,” I state.
“I’ll watch Beau,” says Tank.
Nodding and kissing Tank on the cheek, I head for my car with Kate. Girls’ shopping trip it is.
It’s been a few months now since Tank started training Kate and me. We meet in the club’s gym at the compound every morning. True to his word, Tank has not held back. I’m bruised and sore, but fuck, I feel good, and I feel strong. Joker has also been training me with different guns, to clean them, break them down, and also how to shoot them. He bought me a Glock of my own. I love it. All black and looking sexy. He said he’d looked at a pink one, but decided black was the way to go. I agree. Wolf also got me a set of my own knives. I love throwing them. I’m a really good shot now. Angel had offered to teach Kate how to shoot, but Cass went mad, and now he’s teaching her. I don’t know what the hell is going on with those two, but something is. I’m sure they’ll work it out, but it will be a mess if Kate keeps flirting with the brothers and Cass keeps threatening them.
Over the past few months, Joker and I have been dating. We’ve not had sex yet, but we’ve kissed a lot. But all the training and my sessions with Dr. Wood have made me feel ready.
I’ve got a check-up today with Dr. Whitelaw to go over the results. I’m nervous. She was thorough with her tests, and we had to wait a few months for some of the results to make sure nothing developed. I’ve been to her office for further tests. On the smear test she did first, they found some abnormal cells, so she wanted me to get another to double-check. I’m scared that what they did to me has damaged me. I haven’t told anyone. If it’s bad news, then I’d tell them, but if it’s nothing to worry about, I don’t want to panic them for no reason.
Pulling up to her office, I park and head inside. Once I’ve checked in at reception, I wait. I’m shocked when Joker walks through the door.
“What are you doing here?” I ask.
“I came to support you. I know you were nervous, but I feel like you’re not telling me something, so I came anyway,” he admits.
Jesus, he always could read me.
“I’m sorry I didn’t want to worry you,” I apologize.
“We’re in this together, Carrie. You don’t have to face things on your own,” he reassures.
Before we can talk anymore, my name is called. We head to Dr. Whitelaw’s office. The nurse hands me a gown and tells me to get comfy on the bed. Going behind the curtain, I remove my clothes and put the gown on. Coming back out, Joker had moved a chair so he can sit at my head. I sit on the bed and wait for Dr. Whitelaw.
“Hello, Carrie. Oh, hello, Jason,” Dr. Helen says, surprised.
Joker shakes her hand. “Hey, Dr. Whitelaw,” he greets.
“Please call me Helen. Right so how are you feeling, Carrie?” she asks.
“I’m nervous. I feel okay, though,” I admit.
Nodding, she makes some notes on the computer on her desk.
“That’s good. There is nothing to be nervous about. Okay, so if you’ll just lie back and place your feet in the stirrups. Relax, and we’ll start the exam,” she states.
Lying back and getting as comfy as I can, Joker grabs my hand. I’m now really grateful he’s here. Dr. Whitelaw does the examination. It’s uncomfortable, but not painful.
“Thank you, Carrie, you can sit up now,” Dr. Helen declares.
Sitting up, Joker still doesn’t release my hand.
“Everything is looking perfect. You’ve healed great, and there is no lasting scarring. I know we spoke last time about the smear test showing abnormal cells and what that could mean,” she says.
Nodding my head, I don’t speak.
“What could abnormal cells mean?” Joker asks.
