“We won’t. Just keep doing what you’re doing,” he tries to reassure me.

It doesn’t take long for the rest of the brothers and an ambulance to reach us. I watch as the paramedics work on Wrench and get him loaded up into the ambulance. Looking around, I notice my brothers surround us, except Wire and Dog. Turning to Joker, I notice the look of pure rage and worry on his face.

“Where are Wire and Dog?” I ask, looking around for them.

“Wire was run off his bike, they bundled him into the van and took off. Dog rode with them,” Joker replies.

“You mean, he took chase?”

I needed to understand what's happening.

“No, brother, he was working with them.”

I turn to Prez, clenching my fists at my sides.

“They die. I’ll kill them all.”

“Keep the faith, brother. They will be fine, and we will get to the bottom of this,” Prez says as I watch the ambulance speed away. “Mount up and meet at the hospital,” he orders.

We all rush to our bikes and speed off after the ambulance. Once we get to the hospital, all hell seems to be breaking loose. Wrench has been rushed into surgery, and Joker is taken to have his shoulder fixed. I’m sitting in the awful, uncomfortable plastic chairs hospitals always seem to have in their waiting rooms when Carrie comes running through the doors.

“Tank, where is he?” she begs, worry lacing her voice.

“He’s fine, Gorgeous, just a graze. He’ll be out in a minute.”

I try to calm her down and pull her in for a hug, but she pushes me away and starts to head for the cubicles.

“Carrie, calm down. He’ll be out in a minute,” I try again.

Spinning around, she punches me full force in the stomach, causing me to double over.

“I don’t care, that is my man, and I’m going to see him,” she yells at me, disappearing behind the curtain.

“You okay, brother?” Rafe asks as I try to get my breath back.

“Yeah. Fuck, girl’s got one hell of a punch on her,” I say breathlessly while taking a seat.

Damn. I’m going to have a bruise where she hit me. It’s not long before Joker and Carrie join us in the waiting room. Prez is in the corner on the phone, shouting at someone.

“No, we have no clue who’s taken them. This is a fucking shit storm,” he’s yelling at whoever is on the call.

He isn’t wrong. This really is a shit storm.

I hear Carrie tell Joker she’s heading back to the clubhouse to see Beau. Something on that girl’s face makes me think she’s up to something. Joker must feel it too, as he tells a prospect to go with her. We continue to sit there a while longer, waiting for news from the doctors. It feels like I’ve been waiting my entire life.

“Okay, brother?” Joker asks me.

“To be honest, no, I don’t think I am. I can’t get the image of him laying on the road, with his blood seeping through my fingers. I tried to stop it as best I could, but it just kept coming. Wrench is as close to me as you are. We can’t lose him,” I tell him honestly.

Getting up, I pace a little, noticing his blood is still on my hands.

“Need to wash up,” I tell him and head for the bathroom.

Washing my hands until they are raw, I grip the sink and look at myself in the mirror. He can’t die. Is it my fault if he dies? I’m the Sergeant at Arms. It’s my job to protect my brothers. I didn’t protect Wrench, and I sure as fuck didn’t protect Wire. He’s missing, and I should be out there looking for him. Until I know if Wrench is okay, I can’t bring myself to leave the hospital. Taking a minute to pull myself together, as I need to be strong for my brothers and their families, I quickly wash my face and head back to the waiting room. Sitting back in the awful fucking chair, we don’t have to wait much longer when the doctor comes out.

“How is he, Doc?” Prez asks.

The look on his face makes me brace myself for the worst.
