“Because you’re a stupid fucker,” I reply as I raise my gun, aiming it at him. “No reason for me not to take you out now,” I tell him.
“If I go, I’m taking you with me.”
That’s the reply I get as we both pull the trigger. I hit him straight between the eyes. Unlucky for me, even high, Lukas is not a bad shot. I feel the bullet hit, and I start to fall to the ground.
“Pandora,” I hear Tank shout as he catches me in his arms.
“Hold on, darlin’, you stay with me,” he says as he tries to stem the bleeding, but even I can see I’m losing too much, too quickly.
“Tank, please, I’m sorry you thought I betrayed you,” I try to say in between gasps.
“Darlin’, save your strength. I’m so sorry I ever doubted you. The girls made me see the truth, and then Willow told me you were in trouble.”
“Scott, I’m not surviving this,” I say as I struggle to breathe.
“Don’t talk like that. You’re strong.”
“I love you.”Are my last words.
CHAPTERFIFTEEN
TANK
I had only taken a few mouthfuls when my bedroom door flew open, and a very pissed-off-looking Kate and Carrie storm into my room.
“How are you this fucking thick?” Kate shouts at me.
“I really expected so much more from you,” Carrie says, with so much disappointment written on her face.
“What are you two going on about? I want to be left alone.”
“Fine, guess we’ll just have to go make sure Pandora is okay,” Kate replies as she turns to leave.
“Kate, I fucking told you to stay away from that traitor,” I yell at her.
“Only traitor I know is you,” she spits back.
What the fuck?
“You take that back, right fucking now,” I demand.
“This is getting us nowhere,” Carrie says calmly.
“Tank, I know what Wire thinks he heard, but he didn’t. I can promise you, hand on heart, that Pandora is not working for Lukas. It seems he used to work for Pandora’s father before he went off on his own. He told us he has someone watching you and the club. If Pandora didn’t do one job for him, he was going to wipe us out. Willow just called to say the threat has been neutralized, her words not mine, but Pandora may be in a bit of trouble. Lukas has her holed up in the warehouse we rescued Wire from,” Carrie explains.
I take a minute to let all the information sink in.
“Son, she’s telling the truth. Just got off the phone with Pandora’s father. He confirmed she’s never worked with Lukas. She hated him when he worked for her father, didn’t trust him. Which is part of the reason her father got rid of him,” Prez says, joining us.
“So, Wire really misunderstood?” I ask.
Never hoped for more in my life than for this to be true.
“Yeah, brother. You even said it yourself. Something didn’t feel right,” Prez says.
“As lovely as this is, Pandora is still in trouble. If you’re not going to help her, then I am,” Kate says from the doorway, still shaking with anger.
“Kate . . .”
