“We are, which is why I’m telling you togo. Enjoy some time away. Let yourself recharge. And hey, if you’re lucky, maybe the universe will cross your path with some cutie-patootie.”

“Not you too,” I say with a groan, covering my face with my hands. The people around all laugh at my expense.

The rest of the day is more of the same. People coming and talking with me, giving me cards to read later, and lots of excitement over my future vacation. When I finally get back home, I feel like I’m in a trance. I’m warm from the tips of my toes to the roots of my hair. I’m loved and appreciated and cherished.

Maybe everyone is right. Maybe a little vacation away from the pack is exactly what I need to properly recharge. Everyone kept teasing me about finding my mate during this vacation, but I’ll just be happy to sit outside with a book without the thought of someone asking me for help.

At first, I was unsure how I felt about this gift but now, in the privacy of my own home, I’m filled with excitement. This is going to be a good thing and when I come back, I’ll be an even better alpha because I’ll finally be rested.

I turn the radio up, screaming the lyrics of the rock song on the radio. Another perk of always traveling alone is that I get to pick the songsandI get to sing as loud as humanly possible without worrying about a passenger blowing an eardrum. Or kicking me out of the vehicle.

I’ve got about two weeks before I’m due for the next fair I’m signed up for. Last night, I called around to all the local hotels and resorts, hoping I could snag a spot on their property for a little bit as I restock my cafe on wheels. It took the better part of a day but finally, I found someone willing to host me.

A little lodge resort place answered my call and was so fucking sweet over the phone. The owner, Elias, said they’d love to have my food truck on the property and stated their guests would love a change of pace from their regular coffee. Because they were so sweet, I plan on giving them as many free drinks as they’d like while I’m there.

The plan is to stay there for around a week or so. I can get my water tank changed out, get some new supplies ordered to the lodge’s address. By then I’ll hopefully have all my ducks in a row for the next fair I’m supposed to be at.

Hopefully the lodge has a shower I’ll be able to use without actually spending money on my own room. Why would I need an entire room when I can just sleep in my truck?

I see a sign for the lodge and turn left down the road. It doesn’t take long before I’m pulling into a long driveway. There are adorable little cabins that line the driveway, each with a giant window in the front and a swing seat. I pull my truck to the side, parking as close to the main lodge as possible without being in the way.

Pulling out my phone, I shoot off a quick message to my brothers, Raphael and Nolan, letting them know I’ve arrived safely and that I’ll let them know how everything is once I get myself settled. The three of us have been thick as thieves since we were born but have all moved in different directions now that we’re adults. Despite being from the same clutch, the three of us couldn’t be more different. I guess that’s what happens when each of us had our own egg.

I miss them every single day, but I’m also enjoying this new chapter in our lives.

I pull down my visor and check my reflection in the mirror. I make sure my hair isn’t too much of a mess. Then I turn off my truck and head outside. The air here is fresh and crisp. The entire resort area is surrounded by forest. This place would have made an amazing campground if they’d decided to go that way instead of a resort with cabins. Maybe people can do both here?

I walk inside, looking around, taking it all in. This place is cuter than I expected.

“Hi,” I greet the thin, tall man at the counter. “I’m Brock. I talked to someone on the phone last night about parking my food truck here?”

“Oh yes! That was me!”

“Elias?”

“Yeah! My husband and I are super excited to have you here. We hope you’ll get tons of customers because we’re all booked up for the entire week!”

“That’s really sweet of you,” I say with a small smile. “Thank you again for allowing me to stop here. Would it be okay if I ordered some supplies to this address?”

“Oh gosh, we don’t mind at all! Order away!”

“Thank you.” There’s something about Elias that has all my worries and anxieties falling away. He’s like some sort of magical fae who knows exactly what people need before even they do. Or maybe that’s just my mythical brain talking. “Also,” I say with a little bit of a wince. “I see you have a pool. Do you also have a shower that I can use?”

“Oh my goodness, yes, of course! The pool has a bathroom you can use with a shower. Here, let me get you a keycard so you can have access.”

“You’re being really kind,” I say without thinking. “Sorry, I’m just wondering what you guys get out of me being here.”

Elias hands over a keycard, his smile never fading. “Why wouldn’t we want you here? You’re like an extra attraction for people who’re staying here. Plus, we love meeting new people and bringing people together,” he says, adding a little wink at the end of his sentence.

My fae theory is seeming more and more likely the more I talk to him.

I hum in acknowledgement. “Okay,” I say slowly. “Don’t think I’m not appreciative, because I am. Truly. I’m just worried you’re not getting much out of this agreement.”

“Don’t worry about that, Brock. I can’t wait to try your coffee.”
