I’m intrigued. And more turned on than I have any right to be.
“Hi,” I say, standing up and leaning over the edge of the window. “Welcome to The Feisty Latte. Can I interest you in an afternoon coffee?”
The man startles, like he wasn’t expecting me to actually talk. He looks at the side of the truck, taking everything in for the first time outside of me. Finally, he looks back up at me with a frown. “Oh umm, I don’t drink caffeine.”
“Wait,never?” I ask, absolutely scandalized.
“Not really. Caffeine hits me really hard. If I drink a coffee now, I’ll be up all night with the jitters.”
I’m not sure what it says about me as a person but the fact that he doesn’t drink coffee just made him like fifty percent less hot.
“I could make you something decaf. Or you can come back in the morning and start your day with a coffee. That way you have time to work off all the extra energy?”
“Umm, yeah. That sounds good.”
I keep staring down at him, waiting for him to tell me if he’s going to come back tomorrow or try a decaf drink. He gives me a smile. When no answer comes, I open my mouth to ask him which he’d prefer but he jumps in before I can.
“I’m Aiden.”
“It’s lovely to meet you. I’m Brock.”
“Brock,” Aiden whispers, more to himself than to me. “What do you recommend someone like me should try?”
I rest my elbow on the counter and put my face against my fist. “Do you have a sweet tooth?”
“I try not to indulge too much,” he admits softly.
“But you’re on vacation, Aiden. You’ve gotta learn to live a little. Life is too short not to let yourself indulge!”
Aiden’s cheeks turn a brilliant shade of red. Oh, this man is going to be the death of me, I can just tell. All I want to do is lay him out and corrupt him. He seems so shy and innocent. I want to ruin him.
“I’ll admit I do have a bit of a sweet tooth.”
“Then I know just the thing. Give me one second,” I tell him, turning around and heading to my work station. I make him a decaf chocolate chip java frozen drink with extra caramel and chocolate syrup around the cup and on top of the whipped cream. It’s more like a dessert than a drink.
“Okie dokie, handsome,” I say, sliding the drink across the counter. “That’ll be four fifty.”
Aiden looks up at me with wide eyes. “Fuck. I forgot my wallet.”
“You came over to a food truck without any money?”
His cheeks heat once more. Gods, he’s fucking adorable. “I just wanted to come see what you were offering. If I’m honest, I wasn’t expecting to actually buy anything.”
“Promise me you’ll be back in the morning and we’ll call it even. How about that?”
“Are you sure? My cabin’s really not that far away.”
“I’m sure. This way I know I’ll get to see your handsome face again,” I tell him with a grin.
“You think I’m handsome?”
I roll my eyes. “Obviously. I’m pretty sure everyone within a mile radius can admit that you’re handsome. Do you not own a mirror or something?”
Aiden uses his free hand to cover his face for a moment, chuckling softly. The sound sends a thrill through my chest.
“Trust me,” he finally says, “you don’t need to bribe me to come back.”
“Oh yeah?”
