“Here you go,” I say, sliding over an Americano. “I hope you enjoy!”

“I’m sure I will. Everything I’ve tried so far has been amazing. Could you think about following me home and just parking outside my house?”

“Tempting,” I tell the woman in front of me, giving her a wink. She heads off to her cabin, leaving me all alone.

Now that there’s no one to distract me, I can’t stop thinking about meeting up with Aiden. I’d called it a date but is that really what’s going on? I was hoping for some fun, no strings attached sexy time but now we’re going ona date?

I groan as I rub tiredly at my eyes. It’s not that I’m opposed to a date, only that things get complicated when I think about what’s going to happen at the end of this week. He’ll be off to his pack and I’ll be on the road again. Something like this certainly can’t work long term, right?

But at the same time I would be fucking stupid not to see the amount of chemistry sparking between the two of us. I’ve only just met him but I already feel a connection, something I can’t explain away. His citrusy scent lingers where he touched me earlier and I can’t stop breathing it in just to feel my stomach flutter again.

I want him. I want himdesperately. I’m mature enough to admit that I’m pretty sure I want more than just his body. Don’t get me wrong, I want to fuck him raw until he won’t be able to so much as pop a boner without thinking about the smell and taste ofmyslick, but at the same time, I want to know what it’s like to fall asleep next to him. I want to know what he looks like first thing in the morning. I want to hear him talk about his pack.

Jesus Christ, how the fuck do I have it this bad for a wolf I’ve only just met?

My instincts are a mess but I can’t help but listen to them. They’re telling me that whatever this is I’m feeling isreal. They’re whispering that I need to give this alpha a chance. A real chance. They’re telling me that whatever this is has the potential to be something really special.

When I see Aiden leave his cabin, I quickly close up my truck, putting a sign in the window letting people know I’m on a break and that I’ll be back later.

“Ready for a little hike?”

“A hike? You promised me a stroll through the woods, Aiden.”

He gives me a soft smile, his face lighting up with amusement. Oh, that look has me a little weak in the knees. I don’t think he has a single clue just how beautiful he is.

“Hike, walk. Same thing.”

“It very much is not,” I tell him as I jump down the back of my truck, closing up the doors behind me. “One of them is leisure and chill. The other requires special boots so I don’t fuck up my ankles.”

Aiden chuckles softly. “There’s trails around the forest that we’ll stick to. Pinky promise.”

I hold out my pinky and raise my brow. He wraps his pinky around mine, his so much bigger than my own. When we touch, a tingle runs through my arm, warming me from the inside out. Oh, I amsucha goner.

“I’ll hold you to that.”

“If you twist an ankle I’ll carry you back to your truck.”

I stick out my bottom lip. “Well now I wanna twist my ankle just to have your arms around me, Aiden.”

That adorable blush is back on his cheeks. I can’t stop wondering if that blush runs down his chest as well. I wonder how pink I could get him if I--

“How did you get into the food truck business?”

I’m snapped out of my sexy thoughts by Aiden’s voice. We make our way into the forest, being careful to stick to the path. “I’m sure it won’t be a huge surprise to know that we dragons love our hoards. When my parents passed away, my brothers and I inherited everything they had. I used my share to buy a food truck. I mostly just wanted an excuse to be on my own and travel. I’ve been pretty glued to my brothers’ side since we hatched and this was finally my chance to stand on my own two feet.”

“I have a lot to say about all of that,” Aiden murmurs. “But I’ll start with the obvious. I kinda thought dragons were mostly extinct.”

“Mostly being the key word,” I explain with a smile. “As far as I know, my brothers and I are the only ones left, but I’m probably wrong. At any rate, there’s very few.”

“That makes sense,” Aiden says, nodding his head. There’s a log in our path and Aiden offers his hand, helping me step over it. My body warms at his soft touches. “You have two brothers?”

“Yep, two brothers from the same clutch. Raphael and Nolan. They’re both alphas so even though we all hatched around the same time, they always treated me as the little brother. Protective alpha-holes,” I explain with a chuckle.

“That sounds really nice. I’m an only child and I always wanted siblings growing up but the universe apparently had other plans for my family.”

“Has your family always been a member who was the pack alpha?”

Aiden hums. “My father was before me and before him was my alpha grandmother. It’s sort of run in the family being passed down. Not that it’s guaranteed. If the pack didn’t agree with me taking over, they would have held a vote to see who would be better suited.”
