“You’re welcome.” He doesn’t step away and I chuckle. “Sorry. Maybe just one more kiss.”
I sigh, pretending it’s a hardship to kiss my boyfriend. My stomach flutters just thinking the word. Boyfriend.
It’s been two weeks and already, I cannot imagine going back to life without Dell by my side. He’s slept over a few times and I don’t think I’ve felt such joy as I did waking up with him in my arms. We were both soft and wrinkled from sleep, but we’d held each other as we properly woke up.
Dell has been working in his new recording studio throughout this week as well. I love seeing him get so excited about what he’s auditioning for. A few times, he got stuck in his head, worried all this auditioning would get him nowhere but I can see the hard work he’s putting into this. It’s only a matter of time before he starts hearing back from some of these projects. They would all be lucky to have him.
I give Dell a few more kisses before grabbing my lunch from him. He gives me a giant pout that makes me chuckle.
“What are you working on today?”
Dell sighs, finally stepping back. As we move through the house towards the front door, he says, “I’ll be looking through more auditions and recording a few things. Still waiting to hear back about a few things.”
“It sounds like a wonderful day. Make sure you take breaks and don’t forget to eat and drink lots of water.”
Dell gives me a soft look that makes my body warm all over. “Thank you, Daddy. I promise to take care of myself while you’re gone.”
“That’s my good boy,” I say, leaning down and stealing one last kiss. I open my mouth, preparing to say ‘I love you’ when I stop myself. My body locks up and blood runs to my cheeks.
Oh.
It was so instinctual and natural. I haven’t even thought about it because it’s simply creeped up on me. Every moment I spend with Dell forges this bond between us even more. These feelings almost seem like they’ve always been here. They don’t feel new or out of place. At the same time, they have that fluttery, exciting feeling of first love.
I love Dell. It’s as simple as that. Sure, things have progressed quickly but when fate steps in and brings two people together who’re perfect for each other, who am I to question it.
The certainty of my feelings doesn’t change the fact that this is all so fast. For now, I think it’s best if I keep those three little words to myself. I want to make sure Dell is ready before I blurt them out.
“Have a great day, Dell.”
“You too, Alaric. I’ll miss you.”
“I’ll miss you too,” I say with a smile before closing the door behind me.
I get into my truck which already has my trailer attached to it and pull out onto the street. I drive through town to the house my crew and I will be working on. It doesn’t take long before I’m pulling into the driveway and heading up to the door.
Today is all about getting my eyes on the rooms and checking things out. I’ll be taking measurements and talking to the house owners about their expectations.
Our clients are a newly married couple who bought this house but skipped having a proper inspection done. We’re going to be fixing up the attic for them and redoing one of their bathrooms during the same time. It’s going to cost them a pretty penny but I get the sense that money isn’t really an issue for them.
My right hand man, Oscar, arrives shortly after I do. The two of us get to work, doing a walk through. Oscar takes notes as we go, writing down everything we’ll need to remember andeverything we’ll need to order for this job. He talks to the couple about the specifics.
“So,” Oscar says, both of us sitting on the back of my truck eating our lunches. “How was your vacation? You seem,” he pauses, looking over at me. “Different.”
“Different? How so?”
“Happier. Lighter. Plus, you stink like sex,” he adds, wrinkling his nose. Oscar is a beaver shifter. I should have thought of that before leaving the house today but there was nothing that could help this unless I’d covered myself in scent blockers.
Or simply abstain from morning sex, but when a cute omega rolls over and demands to be knotted to remember you by, you don’t say no.
I grunt, shaking my head. “I’m good. I’m really, really good, Oscar.” He smirks, opening his mouth to say something but I quickly cut him off. “I met someone.”
“Like a serious someone or someone for the night.” He lifts his hands in the air. “Either way is totally fine by me, I’m just curious.”
“Someone serious. And thankfully, I didn’t even have to leave my yard to meet him.”
“I wanna hear everything.” Then he wrinkles his nose. “Okay, maybe noteverything, but you know what I mean.”
I can’t help but chuckle in amusement. One of these days, he’ll find his mate as well and it’ll finally be my turn to tease him.
