He says it so casually but there’s nothing casual about what’s going on inside my chest. My heart feels like it’s skipping laps around all my other organs.
“I think that sounds like a wonderful idea. We can start clearing some of my things out of my room to make room for you.”
The smile that Dell gives me steals my breath. He’s so beautiful when he smiles. Gods, I would almost say he’s glowing with excitement. I reach across the table and take his hand, giving it a little squeeze.
“Tell me how work was.”
We start eating dinner as I tell Dell about my new clients and what we’ll be working on. He’s made a homemade veggie lasagna with garlic bread. It’s so fucking good I find myself moaning around my bites. The noise makes Dell blush. When we’re all done eating, he takes our plates and sets them in the sink. I promise to wash them as he cooked.
“I bought myself a cake to celebrate.”
“What are we celebrating, love?”
Dell brings over two plates and the cake box. He pops it open so I can see the cake. ‘Congrats!’ is written on the cake. I have an idea of what he’s about to say but I wait, wanting to hear him say it.
“Something amazing has happened!”
“The suspense is killing me, Dell!”
Dell laughs, his eyes bright and his cheeks taking on a pretty pink color. He finally tells me what’s going on.
“I got the book deal! The author finally contacted me and told me he thinks I’m perfect for bringing his books to life. No one else gave him a radio drama type audition like I did and apparently it was exactly what he didn’t know he was looking for!”
I quickly stand up, my chair flying behind me in my haste. I grab Dell in my arms, hugging him tight. “Oh my gods! Dell! That is amazing news, sweetheart!”
Dell giggles as I squeeze him. “Thank you, Alaric. I wouldn’t have felt good about sending in that recording if it weren’t for your encouragement.”
“I knew it was going to be amazing. I’m so happy for you.”
“This isn’t a video game but it’s exactly what I needed right now, you know? This is a project I’m really passionate about and a story that’s really fucking kickass. I’m so excited to start recording.”
I hold Dell’s face between my hands. Everything inside of me is telling me that I should be declaring my love for him right here, right now. I stop myself. This is about him. I’m not stealing his thunder or shadowing his success by anything other than celebrating him.
“I am so proud of you,” I tell him before kissing him deeply. He opens to me right away and our tongues touch. Fuck, he always tastes so good. He always becomes soft under my ministrations. He’s perfect.
Dell pulls away, looking up at me with dark eyes. “Daddy,” he says softly. “I know I got us this cake, but maybe we can celebrate with a taste of something else first?”
“Oh, I think I have something you might enjoy right here,” I say, taking his wrist and pulling his hand down to my cock. He gives me a squeeze through my jeans and I moan.
“Yes, please. I’m hungry for every fucking inch.”
Without saying a word, I grab Dell and put him over my shoulder. I carry him to the bedroom, the both of us giggling all the way there. By the end of the night, Dell feels thoroughly celebrated.
Chapter Ten
Dell
“Sowhat?”Isayin a high pitched, nasally voice. “I’m just supposed to sit back and let you be the leader? Just because you’rehumanandbipedalandhandsome as fuckdoesn’t mean I’m going to just lie down and let you be the boss!”
I let out a deep sigh, my voice turning gravelly and deep. “I’m not trying to be the leader, Mister Goatsman. I’m just trying to keep us alive.”
I narrate the next part in a neutral voice. “How the fuck is this my life? I used to just be a normal guy and now I’m a guy who’s stuck in a maze that’s filled with death around every fucking corner arguing with a goat who can talk. Every time I think that things couldn’t get any more batshit, something else hits me right in the face. At least Boner is on my side. Now I just need to stop cringing over the fact that the reanimated skeleton on myteam named himself Boner. One of these days I’ll convince him to go by B. Fuck, one crisis at a time.”
I pause my reading, sitting back in my seat. My stomach rolls unpleasantly and my mouth starts filling with saliva. Oh fuck. I must have caught a stomach bug or something because all day today I’ve been feeling like shit. I can only record for about an hour at a time before I need to take a break and walk around outside my recording room. I keep sipping water and nibbling on crackers, hoping to feel better but nothing seems to be working.
After hitting stop on my recording, I stand up and make my way out of my room and head to the kitchen. I drink a glass of water and head up to the bedroom. I’ve been staying here for about a month now, most of my things are moved in, and I’m already talking to my landlord about breaking my lease early.
Things with Alaric and I are so smooth and wonderful. It truly feels like we were meant to meet, that we were meant to be together. We fit together in ways I didn’t even know I needed and I’m only halfway speaking about his knot. Though I will admit, that’s quite literally perfection as well.
