“Have you had time to look at the menu?”

“Do you know what you want?” I nod my head. Alaric looks up at Kai. “I’d like the garlic chicken with fried rice, please.”

Kai looks at me. “Can I please have the veggie fried rice? And then can I also get a side of your sweet and sour sauce?”

“You got it. Your appetizer should be coming right out.”

Once the waiter leaves, Alaric clears his throat. “You’ll have to excuse me if I’m coming on a little too strong. It’s been a long time since I’ve felt a pull like this. There’s something about you, Dell, something really special.”

My heart leaps in my chest. Sitting across from Alaric, I can just barely pick up his scent. It calls to me in a way I’ve never felt before. He’s not wrong, there’s something special between the two of us. It feels like one of those once in a lifetime connections, one that I would regret not grabbing hold of with both hands.

“I think you’re special too. I thinkthis,” I say, gesturing between the two of us, “is special. I don’t know how I know that, just that I do. Does that make sense?”

Alaric nods. “I feel it too.”

“Plus, you’re like hot as fuck,” I blurt out just as Kai steps up to our table. I cover my face with my hands as Kai chuckles, setting down our appetizer.

“Enjoy,” he says before walking away.

I groan, looking at Alaric from between my fingers. “That’s so embarrassing.”

“Maybe for you,” he says with a playful grin. “For me, it’s really stroking my ego. He probably thinks I must be rich or have a huge dick to have a cutie like you calling me hot.”

I snort so loud it hurts my throat and I end up coughing. “Oh my gods,” I gasp out, doing my best to stop laughing. “We both know that you have at least one of those things and I have no idea what your money situation is.” Then I gasp. “Oh gods, I need to stop just saying whatever comes to mind! I blurt things out when I’m nervous!”

This time, it’s Alaric who’s starting to look flustered. He passes me a spring roll and takes one for himself. “I wasn’t sure if I actually saw you last night or not. I guess that’s my confirmation.”

“Umm yeah,” I say awkwardly, picking up my spring roll. “Should I be apologizing? I feel like I should apologize. I should have just gone into my apartment but once I saw you, I umm, I couldn’t stop watching.”

“I think we both know you did a little more than watch, Dell.”

I almost choke on my bite of food. “Umm, yeah. You’re not wrong.”

Alaric bites his bottom lip. “I really shouldn’t be saying this because we’re in public but holy shit, that’s so hot.”

“You really think so?”

“Fuck yeah. I just wish I’d have had a better view of you. I bet you’re just as beautiful under all those layers as you are fully clothed.”

I shake my head, looking down at my food. I’m unable to keep the smile off my face. “I don’t know about that.”

“You don’t have to know. I’m happy to do the research myself someday.” Alaric finishes his sentence with a wink. My chest is a fluttering mess and my ass clenches around nothing, growing slick at Alaric’s words.

“Alright, gentlemen. Here’s your main dishes,” Kai says, placing our plates in front of us. My mouth immediately starts watering as the scent washes over me. “Everything look okay?”

“Perfect. Thank you, Kai.”

“Let me know if you need anything. Enjoy!”

I pour my sauce over my rice before digging in. It somehow tastes even better than it smells and it smells downright divine. The veggies are cooked perfectly, the rice is seasoned and delicious while the sauce has that lovely sweetness that adds to everything. I feel like I’ve died and gone to Heaven.

“So, Dell,” Alaric says, taking his first bite and groaning in pleasure. “Tell me about yourself.”

“What do you want to know?”

“Honestly? Everything,” he says seriously. “But for now we can start small. What do you do?”

“Oh umm, right now I work at The Wing Shop. I’m a waiter there.”
