“Is she okay?”

“She’s scared, but she’s alright,” I tell him.

“If either of y’all needs anything, let me know.” He walks away into the living room and I make my way to the kitchen to talk to Mama and Luke.

“How’s our girl,” Luke asks.

I quirk an eyebrow at him. “Ourgirl?”

“She’s family. Been family since she took her first step into Mad Tatter,” he explains.

“She’s tired from the drive,” I tell him. “And if you call herourgirl one more time, I’ll kick your fucking ass.”

“Language!” Mama chastises.

“Sorry, Ma. I mean it, though.”

Luke’s eyes go to Mama’s. “She’s gonna make an honest man outta him.”

Mama giggles. “Now, we need to find one for you.”

“Ha-ha! Good luck with that one, Ma.” I laugh. “Have you seen that face?”

“Logan Andrew Hayes!”

Luke and I burst into a fit of laughter.

“You made it too easy,” I tell her.

“Other than wanting to constantly swat y’all over your heads, I’m glad to have you home together,” she admits. “I love you, boys.”

“We love you too, Mama,” Luke says. I kiss the side of her head.

The rest of the weekend goes smoothly. The guys and I take Wren all over Baton Rouge. Including going to the Mike the Tiger Habitat, Louisiana’s Old State Capitol, and LSU’s AgCenter Botanic Garden. Mama came with us to the Botanic Garden but skipped out on the rest.

We got home Monday afternoon, and Wren called her doctor right away. She had to leave a message, but they called back first thing Tuesday morning, letting her know they had a last-minute cancellation for Wednesday. So, here we are. Sitting in the waiting room at her doctor’s office and she hasn’t been able to sit still since we got here.

“Wren Jackson,” A nurse calls out. We stand and walk her way. She smiles at us. “Hi, I’m Jen, Dr. Smith’s nurse.”

“Nice to meet you,” Wren says. “This is my boyfriend, Logan.”

Jen gets Wren’s weight then takes us to a room. She lets us know that Wren is, in fact, pregnant. Then she goes over Wren’s medical history and asks me a few questions as well. After a round of questions, she leaves the room letting us know she’d be back with the doctor soon.

I stand and move to Wren’s side, taking her hand in mine. “You doin’ alright, Little Bird?”

She nods. “I’m a little nervous still.”

I kiss the back of her hand and stand there with her until the doctor comes in.

“Good afternoon, I’m Dr. Smith.” She holds her hand out for Wren to shake it, then moves to me. “Wren, how are you feeling?”

“I’ve been nauseous on and off and a bit more tired than normal. Other than that, I feel good,” she tells Dr. Smith.

“Those are both pretty normal symptoms. What do you say we get a look at the baby and see how far along you are?”

Wren nods her head. “Yes, please.”

Jen rolls the ultrasound next to Wren. “Go ahead and lay back and lift your shirt over your belly.”
