A door opens and closes behind me. The sound of footsteps grows closer and closer until Kevin is standing in front of me.

“Well, well, look who’s finally awake,” Kevin says, his voice dripping with venom. “You really thought you could run from me? Stupid girl.”

“Kevin, what . . . what do you want from me?” I manage to stutter out.

“You’re mine,” he snarls. “Don’t you understand that?”

“Like hell I am,” I spit out.

He laughs, but it’s not full of humor. It’s pure evil and sends chills all over my body.

“Ah, my love. You see, you don’t have a choice. You will be my prisoner if that’s what it takes,” Kevin tells me.

“What happened to you? How did you get mixed up with the cartel?” I ask him.

“I’ve been working for the cartel foryears,” he says. “A past client was part of the cartel. I helped him out of a pretty sticky situation, and they’ve come to me for legal help ever since.”

He circles me, stopping behind me and runs his fingers through my hair. I fight back a shudder.

“They’ve been taking their time taking over Chicago and I’ve been helping them,” he explains. “I’ve helped them buy off all the right people to help it go even more smoothly. In turn, they’ve made sure I’m well taken care of.”

He walks back around, so he’s in front of me again.

“Plenty of money and drugs,” he adds.

Drugs. That makes so much sense now. The sudden change in his behavior must have been because he started using.

“So, when you decided to run off, I let you have your fun for a little while. Then I recruited them to help me find you,” he says. “When they found you with those trashy biker thugs, we worked out a plan that would benefit both parties.”

“You get me and what does the cartel get?” I ask him.

“Why, the Savage Menaces MC, of course.” He gives me a devilish smirk. “They’re going todestroythem.”

“They’ll never be able to. Bull and the guys will ruin them. Then,” I say, looking directly into Kevin’s eyes. “They’ll come foryou. Bull willneverlet you get away with this.”

Smack!

My head whips to the side and a sharp sting radiates through my cheek.

You’re a goddamn goddess. A fuckin’ warrior.Bull’s words ring in my mind. I slowly turn to face him again. A fire burns inside me that this piece of shit will never put out ever again.

“Let me make this perfectly clear,” I start. “I willneverbe yours. Bull claimed me as his Ol’ Lady and I will never be anyone else’s. Ever. Again.”

“Shut up!” Kevin seethes. “If you won’t be mine, you won’t beanyone’s.”

His fist comes flying toward me, connecting with my temple and everything goes black.

Chapter Twenty-Nine

Bull

I’m sittin’ in my office staring at a picture of Athena I took a couple days ago. She’s sittin’ next to Minx and Sienna at a picnic table out back. All three of them are laughin’ at something, but the smile on Athena’s face was so intoxicating, I couldn’t help but snap a picture of her.

I’m waitin’ for the word from Tech before we get ready to go on our first raid when Ranger walks in with Gunner and Ratchet right behind him. Ratchet closes the door behind himself. Ranger sits in one of the chairs in front of my desk while Gunner and Ratchet sit on the couch.

“What’s up?” I ask them. I set my phone down, giving them my full attention.

“You tell us,” Ranger says. “Raze has been spendin’ an awful lot of time with officer-only business.”
