“Alec and Stephanie said bye.”

I rested my chin on his chest. “Sounded like a good conversation with your brother.”

He smiled. “Yeah.”

“I’m glad.”

“Yeah,” he said again, softer, his eyes tracing over my face.

“You okay not being there?” If he’d changed his mind, we could get in my car and be at his parents’ in two and a half hours.

He lowered his head and kissed me, his palm cupping the back of my neck as his lips moved tenderly against mine, stealing my breath right out of me.

“I don’t want to be anywhere but here,” he said as he pulled away. “Do you? We could always plan a trip to Pittsburgh.”

But I was already shaking my head. We’d video chatted with my mom a few times too, and it was more than enough for me. Pittsburgh was where I’d grown up, but it wasn’t my home. And after all my years of searching, I’d finally found it. We both had.

“This is exactly where I want to be,” I told him.

In his arms, in our apartment, with our friends, in this city.

Building our future, whatever it may bring, together every step of the way.
