Colt talks to me for a few more minutes before he gets a call and has to go check on something.I take out my phone and scroll through my emails.I don’t know how to be out by myself.

“Are you going to scroll all night, or are you going to talk to me?”Maverick returns to his spot in front of me with a sexy grin.

“Why would you want to talk to me?”

“I always want to talk to the prettiest woman in the room.”

“Oh, I'm sure.”I roll my eyes.

“Do you not believe me?”He quirks a brow.

“Mav, there are at least five women who are prettier than me in this bar right now.”I motion around us.

“Who?Point them out to me.”

I spin on my seat so I can see the other customers easier. There’s a group of women in the corner. All of them are prettier than I am and I'm sure they’ve already gotten Maverick’s attention.

“That group over there.”I point at them.“Pick one.Any of them will do.”I wave him off and take another sip of my drink.

“That’s fake news, sweetheart. The tall blonde is a flirt, but she isn't good at it.She’s too desperate. The brunette is sloppy drunk and that isn't even a little bit attractive to me.The shorter blonde is showing way too much skin for my liking.”

“Being sloppy drunk, desperate, and wearing skimpy clothing doesn’t make them ugly.”I chuckle.“Therefore, I win.”

“Being pretty is so much more than just your outward appearance, Syd.”

He taps the bar and walks away to get someone else their drink.I watch him work and my brows furrow.Did Maverick just flirt with me?

Maverick

Present

Itakethelastavailable spot in front of Sydney’s Sweets.I’ve been toying with the idea of offering desserts at the bar.I’ve heard of a few of my buddies doing it at their bars and they said it’s great for business.I already offer some food and I think dessert would be a great addition.

Pushing through the door, I take in the cute decorations Sydney has sprinkled around the shop. She’s turned this place into a winter wonderland. There are snowflakes hanging from the ceiling and little snowmen are placed on each table. She did a great job at making the shop feel warm and inviting.

“Hey, what are you doing here, Mav?”Sydney smiles at me as she wipes down the counter.

She takes a tray and stores it under the counter before turning her full attention towards me.

“Hey, I was hoping you’d be here.”

“Oh, that sounds mysterious.”She smirks and leans her arms on the counter, bringing her closer to me.It feels like we’re about to share a secret and I love how amused she looks.“Do tell me more.”

“Well, I’m interested in adding desserts to my menu at the bar.”

“Desserts are always a wonderful idea, especially when you’re drunk.”

“I thought so too.So, I was wondering if you’d be interested in working with me.I’d start out slow and only take one or two different desserts a week.Maybe try to pair them with a beer, wine, or drink… If I can get that creative.”

“Wow, that’s a great idea!I think we could get super creative with this.”She taps her finger on her chin and glances towards the display case.

“We?”I arch a brow as a slow smile spreads across my lips.“Are you willing to help me?”

“Well, I think you’re pretty lost and I’m practically a master at this.”

“Oh, really?”I chuckle.
