"What do you want?" Heath's voice is deadly.

Sienna's lip curls in disgust. "We are here to retrieve a wolf from our pack."

My muscles go cold. Heath growls, "There is no one here that is yours."

"But there is," Sienna says, her contemptuous smile opening to show fangs between her blood-red lips.

Ferris sighs as if this is all tedious for him. "We gave refuge to Hazel, and she came into her wolf while a resident of Granite Ridge Pack."

The entire crowd erupts in snarls and growls. I dig my fingers into Slate's arm to anchor me. The emotions bashing against me are overwhelming. My own emotions alone would be difficult, but the weight of the pack, dull as it is while I'm not a wolf, is too much.

"She is the intended mate of our heir," Sienna claims.

"I recommend you rethink that statement very carefully," Slate threatens. He looks ready to gut her.

Ferris looks to his son. Jasper's platinum hair is disheveled and he looks pale. "Jasper, testify to this Alpha."

His voice is defeated. "Hazel was living with me in our pack lands. She pledged to be my mate."

"Like hell, she did," Slate shouts.

"Leash your beta," Ferris growls.

Heath is unconcerned. "You are laying claim to his mate. You're lucky he isn't ripping your throat out." Heath glances at Slate. "Yet."

"They were in the middle of a ceremony when she was stolen away from us," Sienna says.

"Stolen? You’re the one who stole me!" I find my voice. This entire situation is ridiculous.

"Hand over our wolf and we can avoid any violence," Ferris says.

"Go fuck yourself!" Onyx shouts from over our shoulders.

Heath holds up a hand. The pack goes quiet. Calmly, he turns to me.

"I never agreed to anything, and Jasper never even asked," I say savagely. Eyeing Sienna, my rage overflows. "This pathetic excuse for an alpha threatened us, tried to force us to become mates against our will. She abused us. "

"One more word about my mate, and I will direct an attack." Ferris's sharp voice cuts me off. He might not care if I’m forced to rejoin his pack, but he certainly cares about Sienna. Movement ripples through the line of Granite Ridge members.

Heath chuckles. "That will not end well for you."

He is trying to diffuse the situation, but violence and rage are bubbling up. We are seconds away from an explosion.

Slate releases my hand and takes a step forward. I want to grab him, but Cassia touches my shoulder.

"You want to take her? I challenge you for her." His voice is clear, every syllable clipped with anger.

"Not necessary," Heath snaps.

"I think it's a great solution. Let's see how he stacks up against Jasper," Ferris says. His cocky grin reminds me of his son. But on him, it is petrifying.

"Are you kidding me?" I protest. Slate keeps his focus fixed on Ferris and Jasper. I follow his gaze to Jasper. He is frozen as if waiting for violence from beside him instead of from us. An idea sparks.

"If Slate wins, Jasper joins our pack," I interject.

Slate bristles and opens his mouth to argue, but Heath stops him with a hand on his arm. My uncle takes a moment, looking between me and Jasper.

"Why would we do that?" Sienna spits.
