“Hey. Are you getting ready for your date?”

“I am. I’m excited to be getting out of the house even though it’s cold as hell.”

The weather had gotten colder over the last couple of weeks, and that was another reason why we stayed inside. It was weird to me that Franklin would sit on his porch and drink tea in the cold weather. I wasn’t trying to be out there, so I would just chill in the house. I developed a new love of tea once Franklin showed me his massive collection of different teas. I didn’t even know half of them existed.

“Dress warm and enjoy yourself. You’ve been in a good space for the last few weeks, and I love that for you.”

“Thanks. It’s been good. What about you? Where’s your mystery man?”

I never found out who Lauren was with on her trip. I knew she would tell me in her own time.

“He’s around. You’ll meet him one day. Maybe the four of us could double date or something. I know you said Franklin doesn’t like being out too much, so maybe we can do a game night or something at one of our houses.”

“That would be fun. I’ll run it by Franklin and see how he feels about it, then I’ll let you know.”

I wasn’t sure if he would be willing to meet new people, but I thought it would be cool. I just prayed I wasn’t moving too fast. I didn’t want to run the man off. It would just be something fun to do. No pressure.

“Okay. I’ll let you go, but call me when you get a chance.”

“I will. Love you.”

“Love you too.”

We hung up and I continued getting ready. Franklin said he would be at my door by seven, and I wanted to be ready when he came.

By the time I was finished, I heard my doorbell ring, and I checked the camera to ensure it was Franklin. When I noticed him on my porch, I smiled, and my heart raced.

I grabbed what I needed and went downstairs to open the door.

Franklin

As I stoodon Junicia’s porch, I thought about how things had progressed between us over the last couple of weeks. I went from barely speaking to her to wanting to spend all my free time with her. The shit was crazy to me. I knew she needed more time to get over her ex, so I wasn’t trying to push a relationship on her, but I was really feeling her. We’d had multiple conversations, and she knew how to keep me entertained but also would entertain herself when I wasn’t that talkative.

Sex with her had been out of this world, but it was more to it than that. I enjoyed her energy and her company. My house didn’t even feel the same since she went back home. I found myself missing her when she wasn’t around.

We spent all our time at one of our houses, and I felt like we needed to get out of the house for a little bit. It was good to see how someone acted in a different environment. I had my hands in my coat pockets because it was cold as hell.

“Hi, Franklin,” Junicia greeted me when she opened the door.

My heart sped up as I looked into her beautiful eyes. She wore makeup that enhanced her beauty. Her hair was in the signature style she usually wore it in. The only other thing I saw her in was a scarf or a hat when she ran errands.

“What’s good, Junie?” I loved the way she blushed whenever I called her the nickname I had given her.

She stepped onto the porch and closed the door.

“Did you set the alarm?” I asked before she could lock the door.

She slapped her hand on her forehead. “I forgot.”

Chuckling, I said, “I’m going to need you to set it before we leave.”

“I can do it from my phone.”

“Nah, sweetheart, I need you to do it now before you forget again.”
