She yawned and closed her eyes. “Okay.”
I left her to rest, then headed upstairs to get myself together. My head was clouded with thoughts of her being in my bed, wrapped in my arms.
In the bathroom connected to my room, I undressed and tossed my clothes in the hamper. I knew I needed to take my suit to the dry cleaners, but I would worry about that another day. For the moment, I could only worry about the beauty downstairs. She had gone through enough in the last few days, and she didn’t deserve it. I wasn’t sure what went on behind closed doors, but she always seemed so bubbly and full of life whenever we did speak. I hoped she didn’t let him take her joy away.
I let the hot water run over my achy muscles. The medicine I took helped some, but I was still tense, and knowing Junicia was here made that shit worse. I had to think about something else, because my dick hardened, and I didn’t want to beat my shit while she was on my couch.
I quickly washed up and got out of the shower. I went into my bedroom and threw on some sweats and a T-shirt. I needed to see about boarding up her window and finding something for dinner. I highly doubted she wanted to go back to her house so soon, and I didn’t want her to.
When I was dressed, I went back downstairs to check on Junicia, and she was sound asleep. It was a beautiful sight, and I couldn’t help but watch her for a few minutes. Since I knew she was good, I put on some socks, shoes, and my coat, then went out to the garage to see if I had something to cover her window with.
It was completely out of character for me to be doing the things I’d done for her over the span of a couple of days. I had to be tripping.
Luckily, the window that was broken wasn’t that big, and I had something to cover it with temporarily.
I took the wood and my tools over to her house. The sky had darkened since I had gotten home, and it looked like it would rain. I didn’t want the water to get into her house, and I didn’t want to get caught in it, so I boarded up the window as fast as I could. When I was done, I double-checked her lock and made sure no other windows had any damage before I went back over to my house. I put the tools back in the garage and headed inside.
Junicia was still asleep, so I made myself a cup of tea and found something to fix for dinner. I should have been sleeping myself, but I was on high alert because I was in protective mode. She wasn’t my girl, and up until two days ago, I didn’t even knowher name, but I felt it was up to me to protect her from her ex or anyone else that tried some shit. I wasn’t sure where that feeling had come from, but it was there, and it was real.
I watched her from afar, but maybe the stars were finally aligning for us to be more than just neighbors.
Chapter

Junicia
I satup when the smell of food hit my nose. I looked around the sparse room, confused about where I was for a second until I remembered what happened earlier in the day. I couldn’t tell what time it was, but I knew the sun had gone down. Benadryl usually put me out all night, but I guess because I wasn’t in my own bed, I woke up sooner.
I stretched, then licked my lips and felt that the swelling had gone down. Thank goodness for that. I wasn’t even sure what happened because I didn’t have anything different from what I usually ate, so I didn’t know what caused the reaction.
I checked my phone and saw that two hours had passed since everything happened, and I wasn’t sure where Franklin was. A second later, I heard a noise coming from the kitchen, so I got up and headed in there. I hoped nobody else was in the house with me besides Franklin.
Franklin was at the stove cooking something, and whatever it was smelled good as hell, but I didn’t want to wear out my welcome.
“Hey, thanks again. I’m going to head home.”
Franklin turned to face me.
“Nah, you can’t go back yet. If you need some stuff, I can walk over there with you and get it, but you can’t stay home tonight.”
I started to open my mouth, but I didn’t even know what to say. The authority in his voice made my panties wet.
“Um, okay. What about my window?”
“Your window is fixed for now, and your doors are locked. Have a seat so we can eat dinner, then we can go next door to get whatever you need.” He walked over and pulled a chair out, and I couldn’t do anything but sit down.
I watched him as he went back to the stove and put some food on plates, then came back over and placed one in front of me and the other one in the space across from me.
The plate of steak, mashed potatoes, and broccoli looked and smelled good.
“I have water, wine, apple juice, or tea.”
Tea.I’ve never met a gun carrying man who drank tea, but I already concluded that Franklin wasn’t an ordinary man.
“If it’s red wine I take some and water, please.”
“Got you.”
